So I am an assistant housekeeper at the Fairfield Inn in Grand Forks North Dakota. I just want opinions on things hotel maids can do to improve hotel rooms...completely general opinions.

I think that hotel maids have a rotten job, I'll never forget the time I was staying at a hotel in Boston, it was near check out time, and I had just left my room. The maid was down the hall at a room near the elevator, as I walked by, she opened the door. There were beer bottles everywhere, and the room smelled like a brewery. I will never forget the look she gave me, it was a non verbal "Oh no!".

As far as what the hotel maids themselves can do to improve the rooms is nothing, as long as they do their job well, and I've found very few who didn't.

What you can do is be good to your cleaning staff, if they are treated well, they will do their job better, and that will translate into better customer satifaction.

1. I would be appalled to leave a mess like that for someone else to clean up. I would be afraid of seeing the housekeeper ion the hallway and her (or him) knowing that I was the person who was so nasty. 2. People who say, get a better job, are idiots. If everybody just got better paying, more prestigious jobs, then some of the most important jobs in our society would never get done. Do you feel like paying $200-400/night for a hotel room, then making the bed, washing the towels, scrubbing out the toilet, putting on new sheets rather than use the ones from the last guest and vacuuming it yourself? Me neither. That's why they deserve a little respect.

What people care about the most is that their room is clean and that there are enough towels to go around. I've been in hotel rooms before where there were 4 people staying in a room and only 2 bath towels. Make sure the bethroom and sink area (if it's outside the bathroom) is clean. No one wants to go into their hotel bathroom and find hair in the drain from the previous occupant.
