For decades AMERICAN AIRLINES has opted for an all polished metal look to their aircraft with minimal decorations. The unpainted "plastic" parts of their A300s looked really bad. Now that composit airliners are coming along it looks like so far all the airlines that have ordered the 787 are going with an all over fusilage paint scheme.
When AA does get around to ordering new aircaft again what direction do you all think they are going to go with their livery?

It's doubtful that AA will still go with the current unpainted look for their still be ordered composit aircraft. The raw sections come from the manufacturers black.
See the Air Canada web site and see their fleet. It's my prediction that AA will go with something like that silvery color scheme with the traditional AA Condor and red blue stripe.

I wouldn't be surprised if they keep their current livery. American Airlines has always been strict at keeping costs low. If they paint the aircraft like other airlines do, the plane will actually weigh more. It is amazing how much paint weighs when applied on an aircraft. The heavier the airplane, the more fuel it will use.

Going back to history, when Boeing was coming out with the 727, American wanted an aircraft with 2 engines because it would be more cost efficient while United wanted an aircraft with 4 engines because of safety concerns. Boeing factored the suggestions in and figured if a 3 engine aircraft could still be fuel efficient yet safe in case one engine failed, both airlines would be supportive. The 727 came out and both American and United became huge customers of that aircraft.

The new paint scheme is a dove/light gray with a white tail and back fusalage..the gray continue to the back tail end of the fuselage. Still no word or pics what the new logo and adnl colors might be.Wont be long now as the launch of the 777-3 is at the end of Jan.

Paint is weight. An incredible amount of it too. How many passengers do you think AA will give up for paint? I doubt many. Guess time will tell.

On plastic airplanes, it'll be the stripey livery on white. Why not?
