The Torch Run began in 1981 in Wichita, Kansas when Police Chief Richard LaMunyon recognized an urgent need to raise funds and awareness for Special Olympics. He created the Torch Run as a way to involve local law enforcement personnel with the community and with Special Olympics. After three years of successful runs in Kansas, LaMunyon presented the program to the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP). With the IACP’s enthusiastic support and leadership, the Torch Run expanded into seven states by 1985, 43 states by 1986, and is held in all 50 states and 35 countries today. It continues to grow each year. The Torch Run has raised nearly $100 million dollars since its inception in 1981.

I fear we are already too late. I'm reading more and more articles like this everyday. If police don't stop helping people we are all doomed.

Umm... How is this "evildoing"? This is for the Special Olympics. Do you not know what the SO is??? Do you understand how much of a prick you show yourself by saying that law enforcement officers who take their time out of their busy lives to help raise money for a special cause is "evildoing" and that now it's in 50 states as well as 35 countries is a monstrosity? Maybe it's me. Maybe I'm not understanding where your coming from. I see nothing wrong with this. What such disregard tours this. (Maybe disregard isn't right word for it but hell with it.)
