Yes, i also have a 6 farad Power Acoustik capacitor, but what if my alternator doesn't come in the size I need it to? I was looking up some of the recommended amps for 2800w of rms on an alternator and I found out that I'm going to need about 250 amps, wow thats a lot. What would you guys recommend and what is the price range for one? My car is a '98 Honda Accord 4 cylinder sedan. Thank all you guys for your replies.

There is no substitute for an alternator upgrade in most cases, especially for that kind of power. If you"re gonna buy a deep cycle and spend $150-200, you're better off getting an upgraded alternator, and keeping the same battery(unless you run it for extended periods of time with the car off). The alternator is the first upgrade i did even before i got my system. I have the same car and the largest reasonably priced single alternator setup i have found is 170 amps. i decided run my system which totals at about 1800 max rms, but I'm running closer to 1200rms or so with the amps being barley above minimum. I am short on cash so it was the only cheap solution. I got a decent deal on eBay from "alterstart" 235 shipped for the 170 amp alternator. I've heard Ohio generator does some custom high output alternators but I'm not sure how much or the amperage. Most of the time though you will never run the amps at their full rated power. What does your system consist of? Like sparky said: upgrade the big 3. I would suggest using 1/0 gauge wire everywhere, for that type of setup.Hope that helps and good luck

You could try to get a capacitor to take some of the load off your battery, that way when you're not listening to it, you have 2 batteries charging rather than one. I have 2500watts in my car and a 1 farad capacitor and it seems to work great, I've yet to kill the battery in my car (well except for that one time I had my radio on for 5 hours after I forgot about it lol )
Also I have no dimming or lack of power whatsoever. 2 batteries are better than 1!!!!

Nope. You'll need the alternator upgrade.
you will need to:
1. Upgrade the alternator to a high output alternator
2. Upgrade to a heavy duty deep cycle battery
3. Upgrade the "Big 3" - that is to replace the power wire between the battery and alternator, the ground from the battery to the chassis and the ground strap from the engine/tranny to the chassis with at least 1/0 AWG wire.
Failure to do this will result in you replacing them anyway as the alternator will eventually fail.

all the battery does is start the car, provide back up power and ripples out the Ac voltage from the alternator to DC voltage there is no substitute for an upgraded alternator youll spend more money hoppin around the problem then fixin right. Just get the upgraded alternator

It will definately help however it really depends on the load you are currently running. At night with lights on, rear defroster, etc you may still have issues. If nothing else is drawing power it should be fine. You probably want to upgrade the alternator nonetheless.

For something like that I would not advise that. You'll be drawing so much power that the alternator won't be able to charge the battery quick enough to keep it operating to its expected life.

Cars run off the alternator output---anything less than what power is required will drain the battery.

you need the alt. the deep cycle will help a little bit... but like sparky said, upgrade the alt and the wires from the alt to the battery, the less resistance the better
