I was just wondering how long everyone lets their gerbil, or even other rodents, out of their tanks/cages for playtime? And does anyone know what the "recommended" time is? I get my little guys out as much as possible but I was just wondering! =)

I let my gerbils play for about 2 hours, I can't just let them out whenever I want. I have 3 cats....so they have to be in their playpen in my room. I tried to put one of them in the ball thingy....but he seemed scared.
I say about an hour or 2 is good for them, they can get tired quick from all the running around and playing.....my one gerbils gets so tired that when he plays in the tubes...he falls asleep it.

Me and my family let are Guinea pig out allot and play with him for a few minutes say 10 then we put back up and give him a treat such as lettuce or other fruits and vegetables and we'll let him sleep for a while and play with him again he as happy as could be.

if you have a safe place for "play time" and you are home then go ahead and let them out when ever you want. mine usually sleep during the day and "play" with their toys in the cage most of the night and sometimes all night

Gerbils are naturally active animals. If you are letting them run in a ball, they are probably really enjoying themselves.

As long as they, and your house, are safe...then I would let them out for as long as you want. Just be prepared for gerbil droppings.

let them play as long as they do not start chewing up things that are no no's and you keep a eye on they, becareful they are fast and might run and hide.

my friend has a rat and he gets it out every day for like an hour or more i think.
