I used to have really thick hair but it all started falling out. My mom got worried so she won't let me use heat or products on my hair anymore (which is unfortunate since my hair is kind of unruly.) She doesn't even like the heat protecting sprays either. My hair falls out every time I brush it, like 11-12 hairs. Is there anyway to get my hair thicker?

I have been working on a 10 Step program for this for over 6 years......I also have 2 daughters so I understand your predicament.

I have 2 HAIR Blogs....each one focuses on different subjects. I think you should ask your mom to sit down and read the first 4 steps with you . So you both can be on the same page. My program was originally developed for myslef and my one daughter because we were both having the same problems that you are complaining of.

Everyone has a "trigger point"....a point or subject or action that upset the growth pattern of their hair. I call it a HAIR SHIFT...it seems to happen about every 10 years or so....beginning sometimes as young as you ( that was the age my daughter was) her hair is longer thicker and better than it has ever been now and it continues to be it has been cured for 4 years. Mine for 3. But I have hundreds of other clients with great hair as well.
What I try to do with the 10 Steps is figure out which was the thing that caused your particular HAIR SHIFT....
MY DAUGHTERS?
...it was Step 1, Step 7 and the last step....
Step 1: Nutrition ...which isn't eating anything wierd or dieting...its making sure you get the right foods EVERY DAY.
Many 16 years olds diet too much

Radical DIETING ................>>>>>>>>>>> KILLS HAIR

Step 7: Having the wrong shampoo. Any shampoo with SLS SODIUM LAURYL SULFATE : should be tossed out and run over with the car!!
GET a new one immediately...

But I have everyone practice all 10 steps for the first 90 days.....its the only way it works.
That helps me watch and makes you pay attention to figuring out what your trigger point is. For past 5 years I haveonly seen clients locally here in LA & MALIBU, so going out across the country is a new adventure...I am having to tackle it differently though...

Read the blogs...read what they say.... they are all about having healthy STRONG hair....and keeping it on your head...
then show them to your mom.........if she reads my stuff she will let you do what I talk about because I have research behind it all......

Email me from the blogs if you need more help with it or her...

I suppose it could be hair products and damagage, but most likely to me it sounds like some underlying health issue is causing this problem. It is normal to lose hair daily--40-100 strands. However, if you have noticed that your hair has become dormant (it's not growing anymore) or has become significantly thinner, then a vitamin deficiency or hormone imbalance could be to blame. One relatively quick fix that my hairdresser gave me when I was in college and dirt poor, so I was not eating too well and malnourished, was to take over-the-counter prenatal vitamins. They have extra suppliments that help babies, but also help hair and nails grow as well. Make sure a well that you are eating a balanced diet. If you are overly stressed, eating poorly, or using some kind of hormone altering drug (like the Pill or HRT) that might be the problem. If any of these things ring true, I suggest seeing your doctor to discuss them further.

see a dermatologist to make sure its not a scalp condition, a dermatologist can also recommend a trichologist who is a hair professional/ hair doctor
shampoo is for the scalp and is very drying to hair so make sure u condition after every shampoo and deep condition at least every two weeks
shea butter is great for curly hair, jojoba oil and coconut oil are recommended for the scalp. find a good leave in conditioner that doesn't contain silicone(dimethicone), petrolatum, or mineral oil, which can dry out the hair. shea butter is a good leave in conditioner
a gentler cleanser in shampoos is sodium laureth sulfate which is gentler than sodium lauryl sulfate which was mentioned in the post above
too add volume use a diffuser on a hair dryer or a volumizing shampoo
trim dead ends regularly

First of all, make sure your eating right. That may be the reason for your hair loss. Did you try using shampoo for volumizing your hair? Those really do work. If not, a temporary solution is to dry your hair upside down, spray some hairspray in it, then brush it. This is sure to work.

Losing that many hairs is perfectly normal. Most people lose upwards of 50 hairs per day. But if you're really worried, try a multivitamin.
