Um, why wouldn't the bride stand in her own place at the rehersal? I would think it would be important for the bride to know what she's doing, as well as for the bridesmaid to know what she's supposed to do herself. Nobody stood in the bride's place at my sister's rehersal...

I agree with the first answer. It's a rehearsal, the bride needs to rehearse her part, as the bridesmaids do theirs. Nothing happens in a rehearsal that the couple can't do together before they're married! It's also a good way for the bride to calm her nerves. Basically what happens is that everyone practices entering in the correct order. The officiant will give a rough sketch of what he or she is going to say and when. This is usually full of blah, blah, blahs and et ceteras. The wedding party will practice their cues for things like when the bride hands off her bouquet or the rings are presented. Then everyone practices leaving in the correct order. What's the point of practicing all that if the bride isn't involved and one of her bridesmaids is pretending to be her?

The whole idea of the rehearsal is to rehearse what will happen the next day. I suppose if you wanted to have a bridesmaid stand in for the bride it should be the maid of honor.

Yes it is, particularly if you are from the south. You can ask a friend or someone who's involved in the wedding in another way (candlelighter or guest book attendant) if you don't want a bridesmaid to. Actually it can help the bride to really see what things will look like and make any last minute changes if she cares to. If you have a wedding coordinator they may do this for you.

It isn't tradition for the maid of honor to stand in for the bride, it's superstition. I think it's nice for the bride to stand in her own place. It feels wonderful to practice how you will be feeling the next day on your wedding. It adds to the excitement instead of being worried that something terrible could happen so the maid of honor stands there.

I agree with the above statements. All the rehearsals I been too the bride has stood in her own place and needs to so she and her bridal party can know and understand the importance of their roles and what to do, where to stand, etc.

Not unless the bride is not there, the idea at the rehearsal is to rehearse what you have to do during the service. How are you going to do that sitting on your bum?

As a DJ, I have attended many weddings and many rehersals. I have never seen anyone stand in for the bride at the rehersal. The rehersal os for the entire bridal party so every knows what they are doing and when to do it.

Not really a bridesmaid, they have their own position to practice. You can ask just about anyone to do it for you, but you should have someone do it. You can get one of the guys girlfriends or wives who aren't already part of the wedding party. Good Luck!
