OK here's my two cents

V in the designator does indeed mean multi purpose....not "vessel" or "fixed wing".....although V in an aircraft squadron designator does mean fixed wing... VF+ fixed wing fighter for example...that doesn't carry over to ship types.....

75 doesn't exactly mean the 75th carrier, as there was a gap in the numbering from the end of the WW2 Essex class carriers and the first post war Forestall class ships.....see below

and as was mentioned she as originally to be named United States....Bill Clinton ordered the change to name her for his hero.....

the irony is when he was President, Harry Truman canceled the first of the post war carrier designs in favor of the Air Force B-36....the ship he canceled? The United States.....

That is the USS Harry S. Truman, an aircraft carrier. C means carrier, V means fixed wing (like jets or airplanes), N means nuclear. So CVN means a nuclear fixed wing (instead of helicopters) carrier. 75 means it is the 75th Aircraft Carrier built.

CVN stands for nuclear powered aircraft carrier, the number is the number of the carrier. In this case, CVN-75 is the USS Harry Truman.
