Fasting/crash dieting makes your body go into starvation mode....the metabolism slows WAY down to conserve energy, so you stop burning calories as quickly. So "not eating" can actually make you gain weight more easily.

During either not eating or crash dieting (if you know the name of it, it's probably a crash diet) your body will break down muscle tissue for energy. You may lose the weight but you lose muscle. This is not good because muscle tissue is your body's calorie burner (fat stores calories). So when you end the crash diet (which you have to do because none of them are good for you) your body, while it may weigh less, is going to be less equipped to burn calories. When you quit the crash diet you will go back to the way you ate before but now your body can't burn calories as well as what it could before you dieted. That means that you will likely not only put the weight back on that you lost but also some extra. Weight Watchers is the only brand name diet that has actually shown to help people lose weight AND keep it off.

Crash diets are the worst thing you can do to your body because it really farks them up.
When you go on a crash diet you fark up your metabolism and your body goes into starvation mode. This means that it starts hoarding every single calorie it can because it thinks there's no food around. It converts everything it can into fat and burns muscle in order to keep it running. This of course means you lose weight as muscle weighs more than fat.
Then when you finish and start eating normally again your body goes into overdrive and really starts converting everything into fat. The result is you now have more fat than you did before, wind up with less muscle and have a messed up metabolism.
You need to create a calorie deficit but don't go crazy about it. The magic number (depending on your age, sex and activity level) is between 1200 - 1500 calories a day. If you go under these numbers for too long a period your body will go into starvation mode. Stay above them, exercise and you'll be fine.

When you don't eat your body goes into what is called starvation mode, even if it is just a short period of time. It's instinctual for your body to store the food you finally do eat which normally winds up as extra weight. Most of the time it is beneficial to eat a small, healthy, meal every 3-4 hours, believe it or not this will actually help your body to look better.

When you don't eat you train the body to store fat. It goes into survival mode and make a few calories go a long way. So when you do start to eat it conserves/stores as much as it can as fat in case it needs to survive another starvation period.
You're much better off eating smaller proportions more frequently. This way your metabolism is constantly burning what's available and has no need to store.
It also helps to enjoy what you're eating. There's a great story about rabbits that were genetically bred to have a 100% chance of developing heart disease. During the lab experiment, one group of rabbits did not develop heart disease. The investigated to find a commonality to explain this and discovered that the group of rabbit that did not develop heart disease were fed by a lab technician who took the out of the cage and petted them while feeding them. I love that story.
Don't forget to drink water. It helps the metabolic process. Regular exercise is also beneficial. You don't have to go at it hard to see results.

Yes, it is. Because when you don't take in food to sustain your body, your body starts eating itself--muscles and sucks calcium out of bones and puts a strain on your vital organs. You can't drive a car without gas, same theory with our body. When you eat very little, the body goes into starvation mode, and requires fewer calories to survive so you eat less but gain weight. It's pretty much like everything else in this life. Slow and steady when it comes to loosing weight and keeping it off. Plus regular exercise and a lot of water are necessary, too. My opinion.

Because if you crash diet your body thinks that you are starving. If you crash diet for long at all, you are starving. Your body tries to latch on to whatever it can and stores it away. Your metabolism slows down so fewer calories are burned. You have less energy to exercise. When you resume eating, your body prepares for what it feels like will be the next time of starvation. It comes back like that because your body wants to survive.

Have you ever had hypoglycoma? You should have a least one meal a day or you will pass out and start twitching. First your vision will be pixelated and then fade to black. The eyeballs will roll in your head and you will fall. I've seen it happen to people before. Its like they are having a seizure.

It's your own little famine protection survival plan. When you eat less, your body thinks there is less to eat and therefore slows down your metabolism to use what you do eat more efficently.
