None of you really get it!!!! I guess that I shouldn't have asked the question because you guys don't help and the way you are wording things makes it sound like God is just another person and that He didn't create birth and periods.

He was so good to us women actually. If we didn't have some tabu going for us the men would expect us in the ol' sack to put out every night, and sometimes ya just get tired?

Leviticus is a tough read and a bit scary. When God created man and woman, He said it was Good. The problem came when man and woman fell from grace. The monthly and birth are considered unclean only because they are the means in which a new sinner comes into the world. As Christians we believe that all people are born in a state of sin. Many don't like this thought but it is what the Bible teaches. However, in Leviticus there are special ceremonies to bring about the purifying of the body. Jesus, has set us free from all this legality and belief in Christ makes us pure before God. Leviticus is a difficult book to understand but it is quite remarkable when studied with someone who has a good understanding of the customs of the day. Hope I helped you to feel a bit better about we ladies. God thinks woman are good and we don't need to feel shame with our bodies. Blessings.

To be honest, the roots of a womans monthly period being unclean has a pretty good reason.

Back when people lived in small village groups and there were little amounts of protection from other people and wild animals, women were made to leave the village when menstruating because it was common thought in the village that predatory animals might smell their blood and it might draw them to the civilization. This is how "unclean" got its beginnings.

This meaning got twisted through time and it became that women were unclean when they went through this time of the month. I think that the early reason was practical but the later reasoning was just squeamish men trying to get rid of what they considered gross.

The same goes for childbirth, once again, its noise and smells would attract dangers to the village.. and in time it just became that men considered it unclean because it was something they saw as gross. Or they just got sick of passing out and decided that they would find an easy way out by deeming it unclean and bad :)

God never said any such thing. The many, many "interpreters" of what was believed to be God's word merely imposed the cultural beliefs and customs of their time on what they automatically ASSUMED God must surely feel about any number of matters, this one in particular.

Why would this God deliberately create something vitally necessary to the continuation of life, and then label it as unclean, abhorrent, etc ? He could have thought of another way of doing things that wasn't so "offensive" to his own delicate sensibilities. Think about it. Who is more likely to label menstruation a dirty thing, God or man?

Society changes--it was forbidden for a new mother to Brest feed in public also. It was a shame for a pregnant woman to be seen in public. Today these things are quite common. If you are a Christian--these are part of the levitical code of Laws--Gods grace through Jesus Christ fulfilled the Law thus those laws do not apply to Christian Faith.

I read the passages, and he isn't really saying that it's bad to have a baby. God gave people kids as a blessing. Ex: Sarah and Abraham. And we all know that no woman is very "fresh" right after they have a baby or during their period.

FOR 7 DAYS WHEN A WOMAN HAD HER CYCLE SHE WAS CONSIDERED UNCLEAN.Not even a husband could touch without breaking the Mosaic law,On the 8th day she took 2 pigeons or turtledoves to bring to the preist at the enterencebefore being allowed atonement. They did a burnt offering, this had to be done before God.

I'm sorry you haven't got a better answer than 'God hates women'. That's not at all true!

The truth is that disease is carried in & through the blood (think of the reason mosquitos are so dangerous). God in His grace & mercy wanted to protect His people from as much disease as possible & give them an edge over the pagan nations around them. Same reason He forbids the eating of blood from animals.

Also, from my perspective, I'd rather be given a break on my period as my immune system is weakened & my brain doesn't work as well during that time, than be expected to be super-woman! I think to a certain extent He was protecting women from men & children overworking them. That part is speculation however.

Place the text in perspective: clean/unclean did not have the same meaning as it does now. Unclean simply meant you abstain from certain things.
