So I went to listen to a few different types of speakers. What would you guys recommend between Boston Acoustics, BIC acoustech, and Klipsch? I liked what I heard with the Boston speakers, with a nice balanced sound. The thing with the Klipsch synergy F-3's is that it seemed the highs were almost a little too bright and I heard that Acoustech are similar to Klipsch. Am I wrong? What speakers would you recommend for overall sound quality, with good highs, mids and lows? Boston Acoustics VR2, Klipsch synergy, or BIC acoustech ht-75, or any other suggestions? I listen to rock music and will use them for home theatre as well. I'm not trying to spend too much.

I would also suggest Paradigm Monitor series. I still own a pair of 1988 Paradigm 9SE that lasted 5 years of college and a took beating to The Pixies, Ministry and The Clash.

Boston Acoustics has kind of lost their way audio wise, they were great back in the 80's and early 90's. I am sure they still make a good product and it might be just marketing.

Klipsch is a quality product, but a unique sound that does not appeal to everyone. Bic is not a brand I have listened too yet.

It really comes down to what you prefer sound wise, you really can't go wrong with any of them.

Hey lenny. You have actually answered your own question!
I always suggest you listen first and go for the speaker that sounds best for you.I wouldn't ask for the opinion of others as they might tell you the sound they like which may not suit you .
You are correct in choosing a speaker with a balanced sound those speakers have neutral sound with low coloration and are happy with all types of music. So go for the one you like cause you have to live with them and not develop "listener fatigue".One very important area that a lot of people do not consider before they purchase their speakers is the acoustical properties of the room the speakers will be in .I have made a list of some of the things to consider before you buy.I have just remembered another important consideration and that is the sound of the speakers in the room of the store where you heard them is going to sound different when it is in you room.It may sound better ,worse or about the same.Anyway here is the list of things to check.

The dimensions, construction and furnishings of the listening room will play a large part in the quality of the sound. The dimensions of the room and large items of furniture affect the low frequency performance and the biggest problem is due to standing wave resonances which occur below 200 HZ and may contribute a booming quality to the reproduced sound.

The middle and high frequencies will be affected by the amount of soft furnishings in the room such as carpets, curtains, wall coverings soft chairs etc. and an excess of these items can produce a dull and lifeless sound lacking in the higher frequencies.

At the other extreme a room stripped of all soft furnishings will certainly produce a hard bright sound with an excess of higher frequencies. With a bit of planning ,it is possible for the furnishings of the room to be built up to provide a correct balance between the two undesirable extremes. Hope this has been some help to you.
Cheers.

I would Definitely go with the Boston VR-2 these are a really good speaker, with a neutral sound so you get really accurate sound with well balanced treble and bass with fluid mids. These speakers will be easier to live with than the klipsch and i think you will enjoy more if your a serious listener.

and to awnser your other question yes, BIC and Klipsch share a common sound but in my opinion the Bic's have a better sound than the klipsch.

You might want to check out some internet direct brands, you'll cut the middle man and get much better speakers for your dollar.

$348 I've heard these at a bookshelf speaker comparo and they sound fantastic! (no hassel returns either)

$219 These are also regarded as a great budget speaker (real wood veneer also!)

In my opinion, pairing a small (8-10") HSU subwoofer with the Ascend bookshelfs would give you the best music performance while also sounding much better than many for home theater. The Ascends use a soft-dome tweater for laid back highs VS the shrill you heard from the Klipsch and BIC's.

Oh and the Klipsch, you're hating the sound of the horn loaded tweeter. I don't care for them either. I think they're grating after 10 minutes or so.

I'm with you. I dislike bright speakers and the brightness will only seem worse to you when you get them home. The Boston VR2's would be my choice between the models you list. Boston has traditionally had a pretty smooth sound although they went through a phase about 10 years ago when they were too bright for my taste. The Bostons I have heard recently seem considerably smoother. If your tastes are similar to mine I think you will very much like M&K speakers. I fell in love with their smooth yet full bodied sound years ago when selling them and they would be my first choice if I were replacing my system today.
