I got a prescription for Zovirax. It tastes terrible, but it gets rid of the cold sore in about 3 days compared to 7 to 10 days without the medicine.

I take acyclovir (prescription) at the first hint of prodrome (itching redness and swelling). If I do get a lesion, it remains very small and is gone in about 4 days. I tried Abreva once, but it didn't prevent the outbreak or reduce the size of the lesions; it did help a little with healing.

At the first sight, eat 1000mgs of Vit C and then make a jug full of nonsweetened lemonade....dense concentration and drink all day
