If there are imperfections in the bible, inconsistencies, or contradictions, should we question it as a whole?

Humm since King James had it re-wrote so he could read it, I wouldn't be surprised if there was flaws in it or things misinterpret. You know right from wrong, start there.

I believe that the Bible is authoritative in matters of faith. It is not completely accurate as a history book or as a science book. I believe the Bible was written by men under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, much as a Pastor can be inspired by the Holy Spirit today. Are today's Pastors inerrant? I don't think so. So, it is possible that error was introduced into the Bible as a result of human participation. However, most of these errors are small details and do not affect the overall story of the Bible or its use as a guidebook of faith.

For example, the history in the First part of Daniel not only contradicts other written histories we have, it contradicts other books of the Bible.

Mark quotes an OT story in which David allows his men to eat the show bread and says that Abiathar was the chief priest. However, according to the OT, Abiathar's farther Ahimalech was the chief priest.

These are just a few examples of some of the contradictions, but again they are very minor, and do not change the story of the Bible as a whole.

I believe that the bible was written and re copied by humans, of course there are imperfections and contradictions. I read a really good book called Misquoting Jesus that really put things into perspective. It is written by a person of the cloth, so they really have scrutinized the interpretations. They also are educated in many old languages and in old document training. I think we as humans need to approach all information with caution. But just because there are issues, doesn't mean we should throw it all out. There are some good ideas & stories in there.

I think God is perfect. The Bible was written through men "inspired" by God. I believe there could be some shaky spots -- esp. in the translation over the years. I believe the "core message" of the Bible is truth. Esp. when Jesus said that the 2 greatest commandments were to love the Lord your God with all your heart, mind, soul and strength and to love your neighbor as yourself. I believe the bible hinges on these 2 commandments

Inconsistencies or contradictions are usually taken out of context or try to question God's sovereignty and knowing the hearts of man that He pasted judgment on and destroyed.

YES
We are to question it from front to back and make sure that we understand the situation of the times, people's sin full ways and God's purpose or God's justified reasons for His wrath.

If you do this to discredit God then you will not see God, for the bible was not written to the unbeliever but for those who have faith in Him , Then God's word will be opened up to them in full.

For those who seek Him will find Him.

I am not sure there are imperfections in the bible,i think the imperfections lie with the people and their understanding of the bible/God would not leave us His word if it werent perfect

Hell yeah there are imperfections!!! It was written by man after all. Question it as a whole though - well thats another story. The basics all say the same stuff way too much for that. That is why i only follow the basics.

If it were truly perfect, wouldn't everyone believe it?

You can look on any other page in the R & S section to find people pointing out flaws and contradictions in Christian mythology and the bible, but when you get down to it, the simple truth is that no one, no thing, and no "God" is perfect; for if they were, would the world exist in such chaos?

Nowhere in the Bible does the Bible itself claim to be perfectly written. There are imperfections in the Bible because while it is divinely inspired, it was written down by men, who are imperfect. God chooses, for reasons known only to Him, to do most of His work through men, imperfect and sinful as they are.

Many characters in the Bible are objects of piety and devotion, but the fact is that many of them you wouldn't want living in your own neighborhood. One central theme in the Bible is that God uses all sorts of people for His purposes, including sinners, apostates, and unbelieving heathens...

i think the bible is not perfect.. we have to take note that the people who contributed to the book are humans.. it means that their writings should have somehow have imperfections or contradictions.. however, in catholic's perspective.. we have to embrace the fact that the holy spirit is upon the contributors, and embrace the news =)
