My 14 yr. old son got a filling earlier on one of his back teeth. He is now experiencing intermittent pain that he says, "feels like when you have a filling and bite down on aluminum foil" This is NOT when he bites down just waves of pain out of nowhere. He says he heard one of the assistants ask the Dentist "aren't you supposed to do so and so?" and he said, "don't worry about it" Makes me wonder. Does anyone know what this pain could be?

It might just need to have the occlusion adjusted down some. Call the Dentist and let him know of the pain he is experiencing and they will get you in ASAP. They might just need to adjust the bite.

How long ago did he get the restoration? If it was in the last few days and it's silver amalgam then this is not an uncommon problem. It will go away shortly unless the filling is high and then it will need to be adjusted. A home remedy a patient once told me about that is gross but works [unless the filling is high] is to put a raw egg yolk on the spot for a short while. This will tarnish the filling and stop that reaction.

HELLO,

YOU SAID THAT HE HAD A FILLING EARLIER. WHEN, EXACTLY HOW LONG HAS IT BEEN SINCE THE FILLING WAS DONE AND WHICH TYPE OF FILLING WAS IT, SILVER OR COMPOSITE?
IT'S NOT UNUSUAL TO HAVE DISCOMFORT FOR SOME TIME AFTER A FILLING IS PLACED.
WHAT BOTHERS ME IS WHAT YOUR SON OVERHEARD FROM ONE OF THE ASSISTANTS.
I WOULD CALL THE DOCTOR AND ASK SPECIFICALLY WHY THE ASSISTANT HAD CONCERN AND WHAT WAS SAID.
