Why are we so willing to accept unproven issues, such as global warming or that 2nd-hsmoke kills,are we sheep?

I must say that i really can not believe this is even a question on Yahoo Questions. Of course second hand smoke kills i chocke everytime im in an enclosed room with someone smoking a cigarette. This is definately something that is proven. The second hand smoke in fact is worse than actually smoking the cigarette itself. But this is a global warming topic site so i will stop talking about that ridiculous comment about second hand smoke. we are not sheep but it is painfully clear to see that the world is changing and that our wasteful and irresponsibleness is finally catching up. we are extremely inefficient and not where we could be as a society. so even if you dont believe in global warming you should believe in pollution and there is much that can be done about that. so why not increase our energy efficiency, move away from non renewable resources and increase recycling across the board? easy steps that can be taken to reduce our dependance on the middle east but also become more aware and socially responsible.

Yes, we are sheep. We are led by an alarmist media that refuses to present both sides of the issue and gives great credence to bloviating so called experts. Hollywood types and politicians have no credentials in these areas, but are supposedly the "Gospel" when they speak. This is what the one sided media presents to us. Just remember previous media issues like Cyclamate. It was a killer according to the media, only they didn't tell us that you would have to drink so much of it every day that you would die of kidney failure before the decades of extremely high Cyclamate usage would kill you. The media and bogus science drives these issues and it is only so that some entity can get rich over it.

What about desertification due to deforrestation ,but speeded up by unusual hot Suns.
Water shortage .Rising seas
Croploss due to temperature changes ,
Heat and cold weaves that are killing people .
Flasfloods .

Mass exstinction of Flora and fauna ,many animals are becoming sick because of SMALL changes in temperature .
Insects are affected and some are going out of control such as the parasites that are killing the bees.
Vital links in the food chains are disapearing affecting other species further along in the chain.
We are witness to a mass exstinction ,for the first time since the dinosaurs, of the earth's estimated 10 million species, 300,000 have vanished in the past 50 years. each years, 3,000 to 30,000 species become extinct.
Everything is happening so fast it is not possible to monitor things any more.

World leaders are not too concerned with the well being of the masses ,on the contrary .it was stated at a conference in Copenhagen,in 1998,by an American statesman , that the Agenda demanded a decrease in the world population of 60%,and you cannot achieve this if you start saving everybody.

Scientists who get paid by politicians have downplayed the facts because solutions are expensive and means change .

Change effects many peoples incomes,and upsets profit margins,so most of the world is kept in the dark of the real things that are going on.for political and economic reasons .

Global warming is a very complex collection of many effects

This text only covers some aspects of global warming mainly man made desertification
Industrial contamination ,the contaminating effects of the cities ,is another story

There are natural cycles in the planets life
but mans existance has its effects,and this is increasing with overpopulation,putting strains on Natural resources and increasing contaminations as well as destructions of essential componants the ensure living conditions for all life forms.

In North Africa,India,Mexico ,millions of people are effected by land loss and desertification and some have died as a result.

In china, thousands of what used to be farmers are running for their lives from the dust storms, that have burried their towns and turned their lands into dessert.

The Sahara is growing by 7 kilometers a year
and many of the desserts we know are a results of mans actions ,and they are increasing ,in the dinosaurs days ,there were very few desserts.

Collectively this planet is drying up because of bad farming practices like,over grazing and fertilizers,

Each degree rise in temperature means 10%crop loss

There is less and less water (because of deforestation),to irrigate this production ,
and there are less and less farmers to do it..

Each year 70 million more people have to eat and drink and wash

Farmers are plowing more and more unstable lands because they have lost so many million hectares to desertification ,because of bad farming practises ,such as using fertilizers and heavy machinary , over grazing, overpumping deep carbon aquifiers.

RISING SEAS
The northpole is melting ,and we will know it without ice in our life times.
This does not affect the sea level because it is ice that is already in the water.

The melting ice from Green land and the south pole ,are another matter.

if forrest are being exchanged for ashalt,concrete and desserts, what is gonna keep this planet habitable for us.

We as humanity can behave in a less stressful manner as far as the Environment is concerned ,but it will mean global co operation between all countries ,and taking into account human nature and the world politics ,it is unlikely that this will happen.
