No, your friend is too immersed in the world of video games. No such thing as "Ghost Recon" exists. Force Recon is a real USMC component, however. A good portion of my particular Airborne School class a few years ago were Force Recon guys. Do some internet research on Force Recon if that is what you are curious about, as it is a a highly trained and effective component.

He's probably confusing Ghost Recon with Force Recon, which is just as badass as any SF or Seal unit.

Units might pick up unoffical names from their allies (such as the Flying Tigers), themselves (such as The Rough Riders) or their enemies ( such as the Night Witches). Most military units real names are just numbers.
The only ghost nickname in the U.S. arsonal now is the B-2 Spirit (another name for a ghost).

No its just a fictional unit that is like a stereo type for special forces units. Even if there is one its secret and coincidental that there is a game called that.
