The King James version of the Bible says nothing about confessing your sins to anyone but God. The Catholics do not use the King James Bible. They commonly use the Latin Vulgate, which says things like that. There are a lot more books in the Latin Vulgate than the King James, which causes much controversy. The King James has less books because it had tighter regulations on whether a book was really the official Word or not.

On the Jeopardy TV Program about 2 weeks ago, in the Category "Bible" the question was: "What is the most accurate translation of all Bibles?" The correct answer was "NEW WORLD TRANSLATION" that Jehovah Witnesses use. King James Version came into existence. That was in 1611. From almost every quarter the King James Bible met opposition. Criticism was often severe. Broughton, a Hebrew scholar of the day, wrote to King James that he “should rather be torn asunder by wild horses than allow such a version to be imposed on the church.” King James Bible has been changed; today no one reads the King James Version in its original form. Explaining why this is so the book The Bible in Its Ancient and English Versions says: “Almost every edition, from the very beginning, introduced corrections and unauthorized changes and additions, often adding new errors in the process. The edition of 1613 shows over three hundred differences from 1611, It was in the eighteenth century, however, that the main changes were made, The marginal references were checked and verified, over 30,000 new marginal references were added, the chapter summaries and running headnotes were thoroughly revised, the punctuation was altered and made uniform in accordance with modern practice, textual errors were removed, the use of capitals was considerably modified and reduced, and a thorough revision made in the form of certain kinds of words.” So many changes have been made, many of them in the readings of passages, that the Committee on Versions (1851-56) of the American Bible Society found 24,000 variations in six different editions of the King James Version! What, then, of the objections raised by persons who say they do not want the King James Bible changed? Since the King James Version has already been changed, they lie on a crumbled foundation. If these persons do not want it changed, then why do they use, instead of a copy of an edition of 1611, an edition that has been changed? One of the major reasons the Authorized Version is so widely accepted is its kingly authority. There seems little doubt that, had not a king authorized this version, it would not today be venerated as though it had come direct from God

It says Jesus is our high priest and our confession is to him. Further we are priests over our own families. It further says that in the communion of saints we are to confess our sins one to the other.
Worldly priesthoods, as practiced for years, are the results of men usurping the word of God and placing themselves between the believer and his God. God destroyed the veil of the temple at Calvary; so that all men could enter by grace under His blood, without the service of earthly priests.
We have a high priest eternal in the heavens. An alter that earthly priests cannot stand before, assist or attend.

It says "Confess your sins to one another".
In Catholicism, priests are those who have been charged to hold what was said in confidence. Most people in Christian churches of any denomination are not the sort that I would trust with such things. Nor are they bound to not report something that might be illegal to the police.
A Catholic priest can hear a confession about drug use or crimes, and not report them to the police. Some priests have been called to court, but will not reveal what was said in the conficence of the sacrament.
Some Christians have claimed that one can go directly to God, ignoring this statement of Christ. Some claim that it was for the apostles alone. These are the same that claim that when Jesus said "This is my body", he was using metaphor.
If you wish to believe that the Bible is literal, it must be so throughout.
To the individual who said that only God can forgive sins, they are forgetting what Jesus said to Peter. Whosoever sins you forgive, they are forgiven.

Since it is a highly inaccurate translation that is 500 years old and written in very archaic language you might be able to discern the scriptures there but I would double check them against a translation that has used the dead sea scrolls and other scrolls that are much much older than the Vulgate that the KJV used as its only source.
I still seem to remember "confess your sins one to another"
Cristn 35 res? where is the verse that says "only confess your sins to Jesus?"
Seems to me people who claim this vehemently don't want anyone to know their sins. This is a very dangerous practice for Christian sins we are admonished with good reason to "live in the light as He is in the Light". Do you have something to hide? Should CHristians have something to hide?

we are to confess our sins to Jesus for he is the only one that can forgive us our sins and that belief is what gets us into heaven. A simple concept that is forgotten among all the rituals of religion and high positions of priests with fancy robes and all the ceremonies.
A personal relationship with God in the "church of the heart" that Jesus gave us the Holy Spirit to commune with. This is the sacred temple that Jesus rebuilt in three days.

It says this:
Luke 12
8 Also I say unto you, Whosoever shall confess me before men, him shall the Son of man also confess before the angels of God:
9 But he that denieth me before men shall be denied before the angels of God.
Why does confession have to always be about sin? Why can't is be a confession of faith, or love for that matter?
It says this about sin:
Matthew 3
6 And were baptized of him in Jordan, confessing their sins.
They were baptised by John, but they confessed their sins to God. John never called himself a priest.

I'm still looking. The word "confession" only appears 6 times in the KJV and none of them have to do with confessing sins to priests.
I believe it is part of the Sacrament of Penance in the Catholic faith. http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/11618c.htm
