I am trying to make a lifestyle change by eating healthier & exercising. It's very hard to do this when my family buys, cakes, cookies, chips and ice cream. Its like if they have it in the house I'm going to be tempted to eat it. My grandma is the one who cooks in our house & buys most of the food. Many times she cooks fried foods and other things high in fat & calories. I don't have a lot of money 2 buy my own food and when I do buy healthy stuff my family just eats it. Leaving me with nothing to eat. I'm about 30lbs overweight and I really want 2 lose it. I talked to my family and they say why should we stop eating the foods we like just because you are overweight,
but when I buy light yogurt and fruit for myself they eat that 2. What can I do?

Well I would suppose your Grandma is following a long lifetime of habit and may not know how to change the situation.

Could you ask her to let you help with the grocery shopping? Explain to her nicely that you'd like to try some new things (don't try to go to the point of health because it seems they don't "get it" yet) and you might like her help in shopping for the best prices.

Also do you like to cook or make meals? If you can get your grandma to let you help with the shopping, offer to help with meals at home too. Then you can try making some healthier meals and trying out new cooking skills at the same time. Maybe get your grandma involved in finding new recipes too...you can always find new things on the internet.

You might be surprised by your Grandma. She might really appreciate it you come at it from a "being helpful" angle. She might not want to cook so much and might appreciate the extra hand at managing the family's budget and dinnertimes.

Another thing you can try (you didn't mention so I don't know) is to get more exercise as well.

It’s all about control. You just have to tell yourself that stuff is not good for you and do your best to stay away from it. Maybe put some items on the grocery list that will help you stay away from the unhealthy stuff. If you’re having a craving, then have a little bit there is nothing wrong with that. But don’t over eat on the junk and just have what the serving size says. Good luck.

the best way to lose weight is not to diet but exercise...a lot. Keep getting the low fat foods because those will also help and have a talk with your family about why you are getting those foods and ask them kindly not to eat it. Its ok to eat unhealthy foods just in moderation. FACT- you have to burn off 3400 calories just to lose 1 pound. Exercise and eat right to get the body you want
