We aren't.
Some religious people assume atheists have no ethics, but this is a myth.

because they believe that they are somehow smarter than everyone else. They claim that nobody can prove God exists, yet they cannot prove he doesn't (They usually like to spout some crap about the big bang theory, yet they have never really studied the theory.)
They feel that since they don't believe in God, nobody should be allowed to believe in God, or even mention him in public. They call Christians hypocrites, because Christians are not perfect. (they have no understanding of the faith they ridicule) and yet they don't see how hypocritical they are. Most of the "Atheists" I know still celebrate Christmas, even though they don't believe in what it's about.
They don't believe in wrong or right, or any sort of moral code. They think that everyone should be able to do whatever they want (as long as it doesn't involve God)
Are those going to do it, or do you need more reasons?

Oh, dear, PEOPLE are a detriment to society.
I'm guessing it's the "think for yourself" bit.
Am I an atheist? Nope, but I will honestly defend atheists against your pointless slander.

Hmmmm...let's see.....
Without atheists and other non-believers to ask "why" and "how" and "what if" instead of just accepting the world as is as part of "god's creation", we'd still be living in stone huts scratching our asses.
And for seer1213....slavery was the status quo once...does that mean it was the right thing? Or was it good that people spoke up against it??

anyone who doesn't work during their lifetime nor contribute positive actions to our society is a detriment.
it's not what people say
it is what they do with themselves for others that makes good people (some atheists & some christians included) for our society.
a self-centered person, regardless of their personal beliefs, does only for themselves is not worth spit.

Because they're like that annoying kid who never figured out how to play "Cowboys and Indians" properly. You know -- the one who never fell down when he got shot, because he just couldn't pretend to be dead.
(For the record, I was that kid.)
Atheists know they're supposed to pretend that the empty suit of religion has a real emperor inside it -- and that's just what they refuse to do. Can't have that, now can we?

They're not. They provide a refreshing voice of reason among the fevered carryings on of overly-religious people. And they leave us Pagans alone. We like that.

Another bigoted question from Randall, who I'm sure will have his smug little butt reported before long if he hasn't already. And you know what you can stick up there, R-man.
