The believers will insist "but he does that all the time, you just deny it." I think, though, that an all powerful being could make itself literally undeniable -- if it wanted to be and/or if the stakes were truly high enough to be worth that eensy-weency effort.

G-d doesn't work that way for rather obvious reasons.

You just have to read the New Testament to find out that God has done everything we could possibly want to prove not only that He exists, but that he is filled with love and mercy. If the life of Christ does not convince you, it is not because God has not done everything He could but because you really do not want to believe. And I think I understand why...I didn't believe in Christ for many years because it was just too good to believe. Humans are perverse in this way - we will believe the worst news much more easily than we will believe the best of news. So we easily buy into the nihilistic theories that say life is meaningless and we are destined for utter destruction. But if someone comes along and says we were created to spend eternity with a loving God, we laugh and turn our backs in disgust. Try to open your heart, read about what Christ said and did, and then ask yourself again whether God has given us evidence for his real existence or not.

That's an EXCELLENT Question! I just got goosebumps, for some reason...

I think you're right, if the only thing that really mattered was "believing in god" meaning merely assenting to the existence of god, why wouldn't an all-powerful being just assert themself? That's where I think you find the shallowness of some people's spirituality, honestly.

But what if what REALLY matters is that we - as people - simply learn how to love one another? Never mind what you "cognitively assent" to. Maybe it's really all about Love?

Please, pause a moment and see what you have done.
You asked a question, gave the "Christian" answer, denied that answer, and asked the question again.....all in five lines of text.
With all due respect, you do not seem to be getting the answer you seek. Look for the answer to this very question by looking into your own heart. Is there an emptiness there that drives you to keep searching? Why has nothing else filled that space?
"Be still, and know that I am God."
God made this wonderful place we live and He made the depths of the hearts He loves. He is at home in me and I see, feel, and hear Him all the time. He wants to live in you as well.

"God" supposedly can do ANYTHING He wants. He's supposed to be all-powerful. It would be EASY to prove Himself. EASY. It would be NOTHING for Him.
Now we're going to hear that you're supposed to just have FAITH...
That's something that was invented to excuse the complete and total lack of any evidence for the existence of God. In the Old Testament, "God" supposedly showed Himself ALL THE TIME. And He did it for the purpose of proving His existence. People almost couldn't get away from Him. But then science began to explain that the things that used to be attributed to "God" were perfectly natural occurrences. So people had to come up with "You just need to have FAITH that He's there."

"that an all powerful being could make itself literally undeniable". By saying that, you denied our free will. Remember in Exodus, He proved His existence to the Egyptians, but they denied that.

I think it's important this can't be easily proved. If easily proved, we'd all know the right way and there would be no purpose in being here. So, the "proof" everyone seeks will never exist while here on earth.

The faithful believe that their God values faith. If you have a supreme being that values faith, that supreme being logically can never prove it's own existence, or else faith itself becomes moot. That is why their God could prove himself, but won't. If he did, people wouldn't need to be faithful, they would need to be educated. Get it?

Yes but one has to believe. I think part of it is accepting faith without really having concrete proof of God. If God easily proved his existence, everyone would have no choice but to believe and they wouldn't have to question anything.

If he was Real and a truely all powerful being then obviously he could easily prove his existence.
