I attended an idependent church for almost 6 years, gave heart, time and love, they gave wrong (and anti-Biblical) advice to families, they gossiped, they were controlling to the point of bordering on cult like practices, now I am shunned because I disagreed and came against them. My kids are not allowed to have ANY contact with their best friends and it is tearing them apart. There are baby Christians still in that church that think we are living in sin because we have disagreed with the so called pastor. How can we defend ourselves? No one will talk to us

You defend yourselves by the integrity you show in your own lives each and every day. When you run into members speak kindly to them even if they ignore you. Continue to do so. Eventually the truth will set in.

If your kids are not allowed to play with their friends, please make sure your children understand that it’s not their fault or their friends’ fault. Tell them that the adults are having a misunderstanding and you’re very sorry this is happening.

This is such a terrible thing to do to children and it must be hard for the other kids to understand as well.

I guess that is the danger of an independent church. no ruling body that the pastor/church can be disciplined by. Sorry you had to go through this. Cut your losses, pray for the new believers and find a better church if you haven't already.

Usually, you can't defend yourselves against exclusionary sects like that one. Grieve over your loss and move on. This time, try to find a church that practicing loving their neighbors, rather than shunning their neighbors. Stay away from the so-called "independent" churches because they have no checks-and-balances to keep them from getting into wacky theology that has no historical fruit-bearing to prove its correlation to Biblical teaching.

Why do you feel you need to defend yourself? Is it for the sake of pride? Do you wish to rejoin a congregation you claim to be spreading a false Gospel? Were the disagreements not so serious after all?
There are too many questions. Examine your relationship with God and ask Him to guide you. Walk in His peace.

Pray. Pray, pray, pray, pray, pray!!!!
And find a new church. I suggest a Catholic Church. Of course, I'm Catholic, I would say that, but I really, really, love my faith and the support system I have there.
And make sure your kids know WHY they can't talk to their friends. You don't want them to rebel against you and go back to this church.

I would just pray that God would open their eyes and reveal to them that they are being mis-led. Those leaders of that church will be held accountable for mis-leading those people.

Pray for God to smite them. It worked in the Old Testament.
