You should elevate it above your head if that is possible. Put ice on it to vasoconstrict the vessels in the wound and after it stops bleeding as much, put a pressure dressing on it.

Blood control measures for a cut are, in order, pressure, elevation, pressure dressing and tourniquet. Omit the tourniquet, it is hardly ever used anymore, and then only as a last resort. Yes,apply direct pressure with a cloth- doesn't matter if it's damp or not. If possible, elevate the body part with the cut on it. Then get yourself to a hospital. You may require stitches, and if there has been enough blood loss, you will need fluid replacement. (unfortunately this is an IV) Good luck.

If it's that deep and bleeding you should go to the ER you may need stitches.

My grandmother taught me this and it has helped, it might sound strange but, you will need a clean brown paper bag, tear off a piece and put in on the wound and apply pressure.

I have found this works better than using a cloth, tissue or paper towel or anything else I've tried, I don't know why but it does.

Get your self to an emergency room pronto! A deep wound like which could bring about an infection, tetanus and severe blood loss if it does not give up. Tie the finger off with a rubber band or string (decrease than the wound), use some styptic powder (warning it is going to sting like hell) regardless of the shown fact that it will attempt to give up the bleeding or chilly water and ice. shop it larger too. yet maximum heavily bypass to the closest emergency room right this moment. Have somebody force you or if no longer, call emergency centers. bypass now!

Do not put a moist cloth on it. you want to keep it elevated and dry. Also apply pressure on it with a cloth or a piece of clean gauze for about 15 min. You can also purchase a butterfly band aid that will apply tension to the wound in order to close it. Also in order to avoid an infection clean it with half water half peroxide, pat it dry, don't rub! then you can apply some bacitracin ointment or neosporin.

run the wound under cold water, wrap it in gauze, and apply pressure for several minutes. Eventually, you may secure the gauze with tape so you won't have to hold it. Or, you could choose the easy way and go to the hospital.

if you have really tried to control the bleeding by applying direct pressure, then go to the ER. you may need sutures. keep it wrapped in a towel and elevated.
