Instuctions on the box say roots only or if you havent colored your hair in 3 months. I havent done an overall hair color in a year, just doing root touch ups. Is it safe to do any overall change? I have been using reddish brown/lightest auburn but would like to go to a warm/carmel brown. my hair has gotten too much red in it. Any suggestions will be great and appreciated. Thanks!

I would recommend that nfor any drastic change you shell out for a professional the first time. They can do some great stuff with foils and "drabber" (eliminates brassy reds and stuff) and can get you "blonder" or lighter brown. Once that is done for you, you can touch up your on roots ... believe me its worth it, I ruined my hair so bad and made it all the redder until I had someone do it to start me out.

This is not going to something for you to tackle. However in salon this should be easy for a good colorist. Balancing out regrowth and going lighter from an artificial pigment is not for home hair color. Book a consultation and take in a picture if you have it. Most likely you can achieve this look by soft highlighting and color balancing between the foils. Best of luck.

If you have just been doing the roots you should be fine to color change it all over. Just make sure you leave the color in it long enough and if you use the blow dryer to had heat to the color while it is on your hair in a cap it will speed up the process. Make sure you use a deep conditioner also to prevent your hair from getting dry.

you should get it professionally done. just remember if you totally change the color you will have to get touch ups about every 3 or 4 weeks. that could add up!
