Good grief - he's only 7 weeks old - he shouldn't even be away from his mom and litter mates and you think he's showing you who's boss!!
Use some common sense here - a puppy that age sleeps a lot, has short bursts of activity, and sleeps again. If you're taking him for a SHORT walk, hold the leash close to you, tell him "let's go" or something similar, pat your leg, encourage him along, give him a treat or two for walking, and don't over-tire him. I suggest you contact his breeder for advice on looking after a puppy.

NO, he's not to young for you to have. Most German Shepherd breeders will give you the pup when he is 6 weeks old. Smaller breeds generally wait till 10 weeks, but not GSD's. I'm a GSD trainer/shower/former owner (don't have one at this time) Put the leash on him while he's at home just to get him use to it. Male GSD's are more hard-headed and try to show who's boss. Males need a more firm training technique than females. Keep that in mind. But for right now at 7 weeks, just get him use to the leash and he won't resist it as much later and it will all start to be easier!! Good luck!!

Puppies can have a hard time adjusting to walking on a lead - when you think about it, it is not a natural behaviour to be walked around being pulled by a piece of material.
What you need to do is bribe him.
Get a bum bag (or fanny pack) and fill it with tiny pieces of BBQ chicken, cheese and any other kind of really yummy treat you can think of. Wear this bag every time you go out walking. Take a treat in your hand and drop your hand down to your puppies eye level and then take a few steps. Hopefully your puppy will follow you wanting to get at that treat. If he does give him the treat with lots of praise.
Repeat, repeat and repeat. Then increase the number of step you take before giving him the treat. You may need to do this exercise in your backyard or even up and down your hallway before you get out to the park. That is okay as your puppy should have all of its vaccinations before you take him to the dog park.
It will take time and lots of practice, but if you persevere with it, you will soon have a dog that is happy to trot alongside you when you go out walking.
Also consider taking your dog to a puppy preschool. They are usually run at vet clinics and sometimes at larger pet stores. Here you will learn how to train your dog and your puppy will learn to socialise with other puppies and people. This is extremely important for German Shepherds who can become quite fearful of strangers.

It sounds like he's rebelling against the leash. Hook it on him while he's at home and let him drag it around, then add time with you on the other end little by little, five or ten minutes at a time. Once he realizes that it's not his enemy, he should get used to going out with you in the world! Because it won't be too long before you won't be able to carry him anymore!

7 weeks old?? he is NOT showing you he is boss,, he is not trained to walk on a leash yet.. you shouldn't even have him, he should still be with his mother,, most reputable shepherd breeders wait til 10 weeks.. you should not have this pup in a park,, he is not fully innoculated yet... YOU ARE DOING EVERYTHING WRONG>> please educate yourself before you ruin this dog.

He is just a baby. Maybe he is just tired. Give him a fortnight to grow a little.
