I'm an atheist, so I'll answer an unbiased variation:

I'd rather have a competent Christian than an incompetent atheist in office. Anyone who votes for someone merely because their belief (or lack thereof) coincides with theirs is a moron.

Wouldn't care if they were intelligent, capable, and competent. I do not believe a presidents religions beliefs or lack there of should even be an issue and it seems like until recent years it really wasn't. After the past 8 years of a illiterate moron as president a little intelligence would be welcomed.

A competent atheist of course, but even so he will have a hard slug. After all, people will be suspicious of the atheist motto, you know the one about it's not a crime if you are not found out.

It shouldn't matter the religion. If you believe in the separation of church and state (which you really should) then as long as the person knows what he's doing and has his people's best interests in mind, then it shouldn't matter what his (or her) religious ideas are. So I guess the atheist but because of competency, not religion.
