First of all, pitts can come in all different sizes - smaller pitts are actually closer to what the breed originally was, so it depends on the line whether or not yours will be closer to 60 or closer to 40 pounds.

But if you're talking about weight, you should first make sure he is healthy and vaccinated - this includes getting a sample of his stool checked to make sure he doesn't have any worms, which can cause dogs to be unable to gain weight.

If there aren't any worms, try a higher protein food so he retains more than he gets rid of as waste.

If he's still skinny after all this, you may need to get his thyroid checked out.

Good luck!

For Pitt Bulls a lot of excerise and a good diet is the best thing for them. If you want them to be strong there are several different excercise roiutines you can find in training books. Pitt Bulls however are very muscular as it is. Feeding them a dog food which contains lamb and rice.
There are also suplements that you can give to your dog. you can find them at this site->

Feed him a quality dog kibble. He will grow to the size his frame and body are made for.

Attempting to bulk up a dog too fast will not allow the bone and connective tissue to keep up with the muscle growth and will result in problems later in life, or quite possibly torn ligaments and tendons.

If you want your dog to get stronger, train and exersize him and feed him accordingly.

Genetics determine the size of a dog.. You should help him build muscle, rather than bulk him up. Dogs shouldn't be heavy, it's very hard on them.

Check with your breeder, she might have suggestions what she does with her dogs.. Swimming is a good one..

Nutro brand, they have one for large dogs with glucosomine and it keeps the growing at an even pace so they don't have the fast spurts of growth where it puts stress on the bones and they will not get the growing pains

You could add eggs or other protein to his food or feed him meat, but he should bulk up by age two just by giving him a constant supply of dog food and enough exercise (which never seems to be a problem with pits) to keep it muscle.

let him grow naturally, there is no need to "bulk him up" that is a selfish and goofy way to treat an animal that you care about.....if you try and make him grow faster than what he needs to, he will have all sorts of problems later on....then what? ?? you are left dog-less....Be responsible and do research on the breed itself. Thank you and have a great night

If he is under 2 years of age, then he needs time to mature on his own.

like i said before,, contact the breeder,, if this was an outcross breeding,, you could have a runt.. if it was a linebreeding,, perhaps that is the size of the dogs in that particular line...

Your least favorite neighbor

Whoops! I thought I was still in Polls and Surveys. Give him healthy dog food, and maybe a little meat--protein should build him up.
