There is no way. Lava can go anywhere, and there's no way to stop it.

Although volcanoes in Hawaii aren't that active most of the tome, Hawaii still has some of the most active volcanos of anywhere in the world. Most people live miles away from volcanos, so if one happens to erupt, they have enough time to react to the eruption, and leave or whatever. And I am pretty sure that most people don't live too close to volcanos, because there is a lot of heat from voolcanos, and when they erupt, the ground shakes pretty hard. Most volcanos would have some distance for the lava to go, so people are peobably not allowed to build in the lava flow range. And if it did get far anough to homes, I would just say that they would either run fast, or die.

There are 8 inhabited islands, only one (the Big Island, Hawai'i) has active volcanos and most of the activity of those is inside the Volcanos National Park, where no one lives. The town of Kalapana was covered by lava in the mid 1980's. Kapoho had lava in the 1960's. Hilo has had a lot of eruptions that have threatened the city but lava hasn't made it inside the city since the mid 1800's. People are moving into volcano prone areas--Puna mainly, they are taking their chances. Hualalai is theoretically active, it went off in like 1800 and could nail Kona. Haleakala over on Maui had an eruption in like 1790 and in theory could go off again, it probably will. But for now almost all the activity is a flank eruption on Kilauea thats going into the sea. Its an amazing thing to see. I suggest you google Kilauea and look at some pictures, its really amazing. Aloha.

The owners of the homes that are near the active volcano on the Big Island (Hawaii) can do nothing to stop the lava flow- should it head their way. It's the owners' choice to stay and chance it- pray for a miracle... or move before it happens.

We only have one active volcano in Hawaii right now and there's really nothing we can do to protect ourselves from it. If Madam Pele (the godess of the volcano) wants to take your house, she's going to and there's nothing you can do about it!

...those volcanoes aren't erupting every day. Not even every year. You protect your home by not building it on the side of a volcano.

Um lava is molten stone....not much they can do that won't cost more then rebuilding the whole house 10 times over......better yet can they get insurance against lava destruction?

They don't.. They just pray to the Volcano God that their island isn't vaporized by fiery, bubbling lava...Then they go beat some tourists for fun
