So many factors can be attributed to the rise in obesity, some follow -
1. Fast Food - People no longer take the time a prepare a meal, so when people are on the run, they often don't take the time to count calories or take their time with their meal, this initself leads to overeating.
2. Portion Control - This society is ingrained with the sense that more is better. However, while people want more for their money, they simply lack the understanding that the human body needs far less to operate on.
3. Cheaper Food - With moms and dads working in order to save money, a means of cutting back is to buy cheap food such as macaroni and commercially prepared products. These products use refined sugars and fats to carry flavor, however, they are bad for your health and attribute to weight gain.
4. Video Game Generation - More and more children lead the way in obesity, why? Because they lead a less active lifestyle. Rather then play ball in the yard, they sit glues to the television or video games. While this is evident in children, it is even more evident in adults who choose to "relax" in front of the television, rather then take a walk to the park.
Hope this helps.

I think there is most definitely a connection between divorce rates, and feminism. It's called women's rights. More women no longer have to stay in violent relationships, becuase they have options that they didn't have 40 years ago. More women are financially independent and if their husband has a mid-life crisis and starts having an affair with his secretary, the wife doesn't end up having to live in a homeless shelter because she and the kids have no money, or anywhere to go. More women are entering universities and pursuing careers they dreamed of as children. Why shouldn't they? Who made the *rule* that women's lives should *only* revolve around keeping the house tidy and tending to children, if they don't want to? There is no point in remaining in unhappy marriages for tradition's sake. Isn't it better if two people are together because they love each other, rather than because the woman is "stuck* there, and has no other options? Why should men have careers to fall back on if their marriages fail, and women shouldn't? Why should men have a life outside their family and women shouldn't? Feminism is *not* entirely responsible for high divorce rates, but it *has* allowed some women to live the kinds of lives they want, instead of the kinds of lives they "should" have.

Simply put- food is easier to get a hold of these days. We also opt for the easy choice which is usually fast food. That along with poor portion control and lack of physical exercise can lead to obesity. Just look at the level of fats and carbs compared to proteins in fast food options. Your tri-glycerides go through the roof just looking at the charts. Many of the chemicals that are in processed fast foods have an addictive effect in the human body that causes feeling of withdrawl. That is why it is SO easy to eat for comfort when you are stressed or emotionally distraught. Besides the food problem there is also the problem of our being a society of convenience. There is little discipline and self-control. With most children... if it does not need to be microwaved, deep fried or come out of a cellophane wrapper they will not eat it. The "Me" generation is based in convenience and they are killing themselves. How many kids do you know that run a mile easily?

I'm going to say this and piss people off: but I'm not singling out people and I'm not saying this is the case for every one!! PEOPLE ARE LAZY, we like to eat, we don't like to work out!! Its easier to go to MC Donald's and grab a burger than go into a subway and wait in line and have to sit down and eat! Its all about supply and demand, when I'm in a hurry and I'm hungry, id rather grab a double cheeseburger than try to struggle and eat a salad while working or driving etc. I my self have struggled with weight my whole life do to medical problems, but I work out and play hockey and try my best to eat healthy! I do hit up a drive through when I'm in a hurry etc but that is my theory, and once again not saying that this is the case for every one and so on but that is MY opinion!!!

The obvious--people are eating too much and they are eating fatty unhealthy food and they are not exercising enough. The film "Supersize Me" does a real good job of explaining the actual serious physical dangers of a bad diet--you can screw up your liver as bad as if you were a lifelong alcoholic!
