What percentage of the knowlege of the world do you think you have. An average person knows 5% of the worlds knoweledge. So why do atheists believe that God doesn't exist, when they only know 5% of the worlds knoweledge. There is still 95% of the worlds knoweledge left! Can't god exist in that 95%? An atheist person is sure there is no God. If they only have 5% of the worlds knowelege, what makes them so sure there is no God?!

I know 1% at least more than you

There was a thread earlier about silliest question of the day. I think this would get my vote.

Not only is the assumption that any individual knows 5% of the world's knowledge very liberal (it's probably more like 0.00000005%) but the very obvious retort seems to be lost on the asker.

With such a tiny fraction of knowledge, how can you claim to know your God exists and is what made everything?

Being an atheist does not automatically mean complete understanding of the origins of life and the universe. Being an atheist is simply a rejection of the accuracy of mythologies, including yours.

Maybe being an atheist is what helps me realize I only have 0.00000005% of the worlds' knowledge, while being a Christian is what lets you assume you have 5%.

Okay, I'm about 90% sure that if God were to show Himself to a all the world's atheists, we'd have VERY few atheists left. It isn't unheard of for an atheist to become a theist and vice versa due to evidence and information s/he encounters in life.

Both sides think of the other as ridiculous. Atheists wonder how theists can believe there's an invisible man in the sky without laughing, and theists wonder how atheists think the world stays together when there's no meaning (i.e. God) behind it.

EDIT: How can you quantify the knowledge in the world? It's very difficult, and a task I would deem impossible.

I'm agnostic, I honestly have no idea if there is a God or not. I have just not seen any proof/evidence one way or the other. I don't get how some people 'know' for sure that there IS a god and others 'know' for sure that there isn't a god - obviously both sides can't be right at the same time!
I rather be honest with myself than pretend to believe in something. If there is a God, he/she would see through that anyway!

Why does anyone believe in God when there is *no evidence* that such a thing is real? Could it be brainwashing from early childhood, combined with social pressure from people who don't dare to voice their doubts?

You're also unclear on what an atheist is. We are not "sure" there is no god; we simply lack belief. Show us it's real and we'll accept it, without needing any belief at all, just as most people around the world accept evolution without having to "believe" in it, since the piles of evidence make it plain that it is as real as Matt Lauer's bad haircut (the "theory" of evolution is the explanation of the fact of evolution).

I'd like to know where you got those percentages, too. If I had 5% of the world's knowledge I'd be richer than Bill Gates!

In that unkown 95% one also finds magic, all the other gods people have believed in throughout history, dragons, ghosts, divination, fairies, gnomes, the Loch Ness monster. I am sure you get the idea. Do we have to believe in all those as well. A statement such as the one you made should require some sources to back it up. Who ever said anyone can only know 5% of all knowledge.

Why oh why do people think that GOD has to show himself to prove he exists? It is a given.
Even the Devil believes in GOD so why not us ,people need to have faith.
We know so little about the world let alone the universe so who are we to say that God didn't create us all and everything around us,there had to be a being somewhere that created all we see, even scientists have now started to come up with the same conclusion and who or what gave us the ability to use that 5%?GOD did!.
May he bless you.

Why do people put so much faith in the bible. Can't it be that at one point in time somebody wrote a book. Life on Earth came to an end but somehow this one particular book was placed in a time capsule and somehow managed to survive. Only to be discovered and then be deemed truth? Because people can believe what they want and there are no logical (scientifically proven) religions. That is how atheists can be so sure.

As soon as I hear the word: "God" - I think: "Santa Claus". Santa is not real. People learn it as soon as they grow up. How long would it take people to learn that bible is entirely composed of fairy tales?

What makes me think there is no god? Nobody could ever prove it to me. I need a scientific logical proof that the god exists. And don't you go with what the bible says, or that "he" has created everything. You know what? The Big Bang created everything. Okay?

Any more evidence?

I'm not sure that I can safely say that the world's knowledge is only 5%.

There are many reasons people don't believe in God, and I could not possibly list them here, but most people don't believe because they find it hard to believe in something/someone they can't see/hear/question/touch.

So basically you only know 5% , so are you saying that God (the BIGGEST most important thing of all) is in that 5%??? Wouldn't he take up more than 5%???

How can you be so sure that Santa Claus isn't real?? But you don't believe in him... it's just common sense.

It's a pity you don't have enough common sense to know God isn't real either.
