Congrats on getting married!
I have been married 7yrs now, and do pretty much all the cooking, mainly because i love to cook and invent new recipes, and also the challenge of getting my 2 daughters to try new things!
I have a heaps of great recipe ideas, from classy dinner parties to quick and easy on the go type meals, right through to yummy deserts, entrees, soups etc...
The problem is i pretty much hardly ever follow a cook books recipes, use them for ideas yes, but after that things get added or removed etc...
All my recipes are in my head, so if u would like me to email u some, then drop me an email and i will be more than happy to oblige.
I know from experience how hard it is to feed 2 people that work different hours, my wife and i used to work in Hospitality ( me a Chef, and she was a restaurant manager ), at very odd hours.
Anyway if i can help then please don't hesitate to email!

Start watching the food network, they have a lot of good shows for the beginner cook.

Your other option could be to start experimenting with flavors that you think could work well together, and then you can cook those over and over again, and keep on experimenting.

Also, www.chefmelissa.tv is a video with a woman who makes quick and easy recipes for 2 people on a low budget, in 20 minutes.

Good Luck

Well, with being on different schedules - the main thing is keeping dishes warm/easy to reheat. You only need a few basic kitchen appliances to take care of every thing. First off, get a George Foreman rotisserie for chicken - it can be reheated or kept on warm for a good dinner. Next, make sure you have a microwave, george forman grill, toaster oven, and most important - a good crock pot!! Put something on before the 1st person's shift starts & it will be ready when everyone's paths cross.....Add a quick salad & some good rolls for an added touch!!

Next time at the supermarket, in the meat department, buy you some sliced roast beef,(about a half pound for two) buy you some gravy mix. Go home and make some mashed potatoes with butter and milk. Open a can of corn and heat
It will really take the stress off if you purchase a crock pot. You can start dinner in the morning and come home to dinner almost done. I cook a roast with potatoes, carrots, and onions. Buy the packet of seasoning at the store for a roast. You can always start a pot of spaghetti
1 can of whole tomatoes
2 small cans of tomato sauce
onion
2 tablespoons of italian seasoning
garlic
1 package of sweet Italian sausage
1 package of mushrooms
Put all of the ingredients into the crock pot except the mushrooms. Let cook on high all day When you come home add mushrooms, let cook another 45 mins Prepare Pasta Serve
Congratulations and Good Luck

OK go to: www.kraftfoods.com and sign up for their free monthly magazine. It is full of easy and fast ideas for meals, entertaining, etc. Best of all - it is free. You can keep the magazines in a binder and create your own cookbook of ideas.

Also, check out : www.foodnetwork.com
It is full of recipes from their shows. For easy ideas check out the recipes of Rachael Ray, Sandra Lee and Robin Miller.

Start out with a few dishes and add something new once a week.

Here's an easy one for the upcoming weekend. Buy a cheap roast at the market. Throw it in a crock pot, pour over it a couple of dry packets of Good Seasonings Italian dressing mix, add water, beer, wine or half water, half beer or wine to over the roast. Cook on high for 4 hours or low for 8. Roast will be done when it begins to fall apart. Remove from juices and let cool slightly. Using 2 forks shred the roast. Thicken the juice with a T. of cornstarch mixed into 1/2 c. water and added. Stir in well and stir frequently until slightly thickened. Add beef back. You can serve immediately or allow to cool and reheat later for sandwiches. Makes a ton. If not entertaining - spoon a couple of cups into zip locs bags, label and freeze for use whenever. Enjoy!

This is easy, fantastic & once you learn, you only get better:
Rump roast (also known as tri-cut) sprinkle with salt, pepper, garlic powder & parsley flakes. Cover roast up to a little less than half way w/water. cut-up a small onion and throw it in. add 2 wyler's beef boullon cubes and put in oven on 325 for at least 3 hours. For the gravey, add water & flour to make a thick roo. Pour in a little gravey bouquet and you've got a terrific meal for a couple days.always remember, low & slow

Yes, go to the library or Amazon.com and get some quick cooking books. There are tons out there, so there is no reason for you to be without info or techniques. Rachael Ray has a great series in her books, and the 30 Minute Meals show is a God send for busy people. I have made many of her recipes, and most of them are pretty good.

start watching the food network, see what excites you both. you can print off almost all the recipes you see made. if you find you both like a certain chef, buy their book.

get some good general cookbooks (joy of cooking, home and garden, etc.)

when you go out to eat and have a dish you really like, go home and google the recipe. try it out.

experiment. make a 'date' out of it and cook together. have fun with it. food is about fun, love, friends and family. if it becomes a chore, you're doing something wrong.

If you can learn how to boil water, you can learn how to cook anything.

Try the Betty Crocker Cookbook or the better Homes and Gardens Cookbook, both offer many beginning recepies as well as measuring tasbles, hints and methods.

I still use the ones we received as a wedding gift in 1967

That's tough, it's really a broad question. I loooove www.kraftfoods.com you might try checking out their site. You can enter in what ingredients you have on hand, and it will give you all the recipes that include those ingredients. Most of the recipes are super simple, and can be adapted to you and your new hubby's tastes. Or you could just browse around. Do you have a grill? Burgers or chicken breasts on the grill are easy and fast, we do that all year, even here in WY. Congratulations!
