We had 9 of them through the years. They are bullies. They love their owner and family to pieces. They are kissy kissy dogs to their owners. But they hate any stranger. And they are ankle nippers. When a stranger walks away they are on their heels nipping them. They would not make a good "dog around town"

We have 2 Pekes - they are confident, loyal, courageous and wonderful. They would be demeaned by being carry-things. They do love cuddles and attention, but enjoy a walk and a roll in a puddle as much as a 40kg dog. They are confident to challenge large dogs over food or space, but are not agressive per say. They just have such confidence to guard their patch! Unfortuneatley, the postmans ankles have suffered at times, though their facial structure does not give much power to their jaw.Pekes are for real dog lovers!

Sounds like your daughter is trying to emulate Paris Hilton.
Hilton is an airhead. Tell your daughter to look for a better role model.
Dogs are creatures in their own right, with needs and likes and dislikes. Whilst they surely like to be with their guardians all the time, they are not a fashion accessory that is carried like a handbag.
Please for the sake of the animal, talk your daughter out of it. She obviously does not care for what dog it is, as long as she can carry it.
What a sad prospect for an animal!

No matter what their breed, dogs are social animals and need to walk around in order to sniff where other dogs have been urinating, greet other dogs, play with other dogs etc. Any breed that isn't allowed to do this will be maladjusted and in the end will become a major problem.

I don't think that is fair to the dog. Dogs of all sizes prefer to walk on their own four feet than be treated as accessories. Your daughter might be better with a new purse to carry than a dog that she might get bored of and dump in a few months.

They have long hair and can get hot being carried around in summer. It may not be a good idea.
Get her a Frog to keep in her pocket. She can tell her friends it a Prince and when she turn 18 you said she can kiss him and get married and live happy ever after.
Show your Daughter the pictures below. I think she will want the frog. ;-)

dogs have legs,,, dogs do not like to be carried around town,, a peke is not a dog for this purpose,, they require heavy grooming,, etc.. dogs NEED to walk and use their muscles... perhaps you could get your daughter a stuffed animal or something or even a dolll..... not a living animal,,

Yep they sure can - you want to find a small sized one if she seriously plans to carry the dog. Pekenese were once held in the arm of the robes of royalty and were called a "sleeve dog". They have personality and will LOVE their owners like no other. Not the type of dog that you can pass from owner to new owner as they are very bonded to you...one person/family dogs.
