My aunt, who is a very conservative Assemblies of God Christian but still has a sense of humor occasionally, got upset that I sent this to my early-teenage cousins in their e-mail today.
"When I'm in doubt, I always ask myself, "What would Jesus do?" I should have also reminded myself that this isn't Galilee and handing out free fish to everyone would cost me my job at Long John Silver's."
I thought it was clean and actually kind of funny and not disrespectful of beliefs. She thinks it is disrespectful, but just told me to "be more careful" when I asked why.
So, why?

I was raised Assemblies of God, and I think it is funny, some people take things too seriously.
also most of my pentecostal friend would think it was hilarious.
it has nothing to do with being religious, what it does have to do with, is a lack of sense of humor.

Nothing disrespectful. When in doubt, you ask yourself, What would Jesus do? That's correct to say! Your aunt is of the old order and probably hasn't read that part in the Bible. By the way, the Assemblies of God faith/religion is not a mainstream religion, its oneof the offbeat ones. What would Jesus do? Look up the situation or something similar to the problem and see what Jesus would do. If your aunt didn't answer the question, chances are she doesn't know too much about the Bible and her faith is at fault. She's not suppose to judge people.

Being Assembly of God and probably a good deal older than you the use of Jesus' Name or Person in a frivolous way would be like blaspheme to her. Keep in mind the older generations hold dear much more than the younger ones. It really was an offense to her and you should let her know you didn't realize and you're sorry she took offense.

You have compared yourself and what you can do to what Jesus could do. According to tradition, he could perform miracles and the story of the multiplication of fish to feed the people did not rob anyone of their money or livelihood.
You, on the other hand were handing out stuff that did not belong to you in the first place.

This is why religion needs to be banned. No humor and pure dogmatic responses.

Being judgemental is some people's way. It wasn't Jesus's, apparently, but it's just too tempting for some of his fans. She's wrong. It made me smile.

I don't see why it would upset her. I don't think it is disrespectful. God gave us our sense of humor.
