Was it during college, before your wedding, or after you found out you're at risk for a heart attack? Maybe someone you know got really into shape and this motivated you too?

Was there a reason or motivation to get you so healthy, or did it just turn out that way?

How did you do it: diets, going to the gym 4x a week, what?

Right now I am in the greatest shape of my life. I am a 49 yr old female. I was motivated by the death of my dad in 2001. He died of heart disease and I was very overweight. I knew that if I didn't do anything that I would be at risk for many health problems. I started with changing my eating habits first and then started exercising. I started off slowly and lost 36 lbs the first year. I then got a personal trainer and he helped me lose 50 more. I work out 3 times a week at the gym and do some cardio also. I did alot more cardio when I was losing but I don't need to do alot now. I have gained alot of knowledge about diet and nutrition and have been able to keep the weight off. It took a total of 3 years for me to reach my goal weight. I feel great.

What a great question! Refreshing after scrolling through 90 variations of "how can I get six pack abs by next Thursday."

I was probably in the best shape as a high school athlete, Wrestling, running and cross country.

I look the best now, well over 30. I had blossomed up to 185 lbs (wrestled 132 sr. yr) My Dr. said I had to lose weight as my BP and Tryglicerides and Cholesterol were spiking. I had always wanted to look like a body builder so I did it, set up a gym in the basement, and worked out like a crazy person, 5-6 days a week. Now I'm in a gym and lost 35 lbs and am rock solid. I do cardio and weights at least 5 days a week.

My diet went from regular American to common sense. No more Macs or Whoppers, but I've grown to love a grilled Salmon steak even better. I basically don't eat any junk, but do have a date once or twice a year where I eat some wings and cheese sticks or whatever, but even then I try to limit the damage.

I know I motivated a few family members when I peeled off my sweatshirt at a recent cookout, nice feeling.

I would say there are two times when I was in the best shape:

The first was in college, when I was in my early 20's, used to go mountain biking almost every day and couldn't afford food. The exercise relieved stress and was something FUN to do, and though I ate whatever I got my hands on my caloric intake was kept in check. I was 155lbs soaking wet, with a resting heart rate in the high 40's.

I graduated, got a good job, ate good food, and did more work than exercise. I met my wife, and "relaxed" up to almost 190lb.

The next best time is right now. I'm 34 years old, with a resting heart rate in the 50's. I'm an avid cyclist and try to ride over 100 miles per week, and have completed numerous centuries (100-mile rides) and multi-day charity rides over the past decade. 40-mile rides are easy for me now, and though I've slowed down since college my endurance is far better.

I weigh 165lbs, have 10% body fat, and no longer eat crap like McDonald's or Taco Bell- EVER. I stay away from hydrogenated fats and try to eat as much organic food as possible. I find that the better I eat, the better I feel, and I can drop a couple pounds per week just by limiting a few things out of my diet (like trading sodas for lemon water, resisting the office donuts, and skipping dessert).

I have never gone on a "diet" in my life! I just alter what I'm eating to match my energy requirements, and my body does the rest.

I looked the best in my mid 20s, but was not in my best physical condition...now at 43 I am probably in better condition than then...I have a healthy diet and I work out every other day...I put in a home gym that has made it easier to get work outs done...I do an hour to an hour and 20mins every other day on my elliptical trainer and then I ice skate once a week...try to walk or swim as well to break up the routine. In my 30s I had kids and gained a lot of weight...over 180 pounds...yikes...so that finally motivated me to get back on the fitness wagon...took a couple years but I have lost over 50 pounds and look pretty good for a middle aged gal. I also feel that it is important to stay healthy for my kids, an active parent has active children.

I was the fittest when I was 20. I joined Bally Total Fitness and I just went every day for an hour. I started drinking 5-6 cups of green tea a day, ate very healthy and didn't eat as much as I used to. The thing that kept me going were the compliments I was receiving from family, friends, and strangers.

Good luck!

i am in the best shape wright now - even though i have a cast on my leg (have had it for almost 6months already)
i follow this every day
find calorie/fitness calculator on the net, enter all your stats and it will tell you how many calories you need a day to maintain, take off 300-400cal off that number and thats how much you need to lose.
eat 5-6 small meals a day (eat every 2-3 hours)
5-8 servings of fruit and veggies a day
8 glasses of water
have complex carbs for breakfast - they give you energy
have lean meat (protein) for dinner - repairs muscle
cardio exercise 4-6 times a week for 30-50min, light weight training
dont consume foods that are made of white flour (white bread, cakes, past etc.), sugar loaded foods (cookies, icecream, candy etc) and nothing fried, oily.
ofcourse you can spoil yourself once in a while with a little treat:)
walking on crutches was my weight training (now cane)
walking in general was my cardio because its sooo hard when you have 8 fractures in your leg
