Let's see -- Iran and Iraq fought a war for 8 years (1980 - 1988), and neither side could overwhelm the other.

In 1991, the US-led coalition smashed the vaunted Iraqi Army in 100 hours, driving them pell-mell from Kuwait in a complete rout.

The US subsequently invaded Iraq in 2003 and made it to Baghdad in three weeks with an even smaller force than they'd used in 1991, completely obliterating the Iraqi Army.

So, we mauled the Iraqis TWICE, but Iran (a much larger, more populous nation) could only get a draw.

Why am I not very afraid of the Iranian Army?

lets see, preceding the gulf war, iran and iraq were at war for about 7 years. then 1991 rolls around and we invade iraq. 2 WEEKS, we did in 2 weeks what iran couldnt do in 7 years. not to mention the only tank we lost in that war fell off a truck

No, but it isn't defenseless either. Read "Cobra II" about the Invasion of Iraq. Iraq had suffered a huge defeat in the first Gulf War, followed by 10 years of sanctions and airstrikes, yet they were able to give a surprisingly strong defense. Iran has had no such misfortune, so presumably would be even more difficult to defeat.

Nope, the Alabama national guard could whip their army in a straight up fight in a week. They'd run around and make it a bug hunt like Iraq and Vietnam, and we'd have the same problem in Iran with an unpopular occupation, that we do in Iraq.
