Back in the days of single or double deck Black Jack; card counting was much more realistic. Now that most casinos use at least 6 decks; it is much more difficult. The concept still stands that if you are seeing more face cards than lower cards the odds turn in favor of getting a smaller card but because there are so many "10" cards in the deck it is impossible to predict accurately the way the cards will run.

Now you can try to count cards by using the plus minius meathod of card counting, but it takes an amount of skill that i and most other people don't have. Plus with the use of 6 shoe decks, and random re-shuffles it is hard to count cards. They look for card counters and as soon as they are sure you are doing it they will ask you to leave the casino and all other casino will be alerted to you. It takes a team of players to pull off a good card counting scam, if you just all of the sudden start putting out big bets, when all night you have been betting small, they will be onto you.

Most people who try to count cards use the "+1/-1" method. You would start at zero and for every ten, jack, queen, and king you see come up, you would subtract one. For every deuce through six, you would add one. The higher your total becomes, the more you would bet on the next hand. When you would have a negative total, you bet less. The drawback to this method is most casinos only have multiple-deck shoes. It is almost impossible to keep track of every card because of the use of four to six decks in each shoe.

Unless you are a math wiz, there is no real way to count cards. If you want to try then count the face cards and the aces, both of which give you a little edge in betting.

Don't count on winning though. Counting isn't very effective anymore - since BJ teams and books from '70-'97. Casinos learned to counteract all that. So don't buy into those stories.
The odds aren't -3% anymore. The way dealers shuffle now, you lose 10%.

Don't try and use cardcounting in Vegas or many other casinos around the country. If you get caught, you will be kicked out and banned from the casnio, without the money you had on the table.
