i am looking into joing the royal air force in UK, and would luv to become a fighter pilot as its my chilhood dream. But some said to me you need perfect eyesight like 20/20. i wear glasses for driving and distance as im short sighted. is it true you need perfect eye sight to become a fighter pilot?

i mean like can u fly with contact lenses or if u get corrective laer eye surgery?

Not sure about fighter pilots, but I know personally a helicopter pilot and a transport pilot, who both wear specs. I also knew a fast-jet pilot who wore specs, but his condition only came on after he was qualified. He eventually gave up when he became fed up with his glasses slipping off when he was upside down!

i used to think that u need 6/6 eyesight. but my bro-in-law is short-sighted and after training, he is now a pilot of SIA. so i think with glasses and ability to read 6/6, that means u've passed the requirement.

Of course you do.But you may be admitted into the Air Force for other duties.I am sure you will be a worthy addition to the force.Do the application then they will test your eyes you havenothing to lose Good Luck

I think its just acceptable colour vision you need... there's nothing that can correct that... but your glasses/contacts can provide you with 20/20 distance vision... not sure what the correct term would be there... why not check out the raf website... they would have those requirements listed im sure....
