Really - I only know what I hear or see on television from politicians so i cannot trust the information I have received so far. Many of the politicians who are for it and the ones who are against it havent seen the bill or read either - makes no sense. Fence jumpers must go back in my opionion or go to jail. They have broken our laws (and continue to do so in obtaining illegal papers) and are a horrific drain on health care and just about all social programs. They claim they want to work and provide for their family - why here ? We should adopt Mexico and make it the 51st State. That way there would be no advantage in crossing the border. God what a mess this is growing in to.

First off all, it is not ok that there have been millions of people coming here illegally and are still coming here every day, but you can't forget the fact that we, American, cannot do anything about this situation. And for the undocumented people here already, you can't send them all back, and also, they won't go back. That is why U.S. is doing what needs to be done to fix that problem. And come on, is it hurting you? I am sorry for those people who spent 10-15 years on obtaining a green card, but you can't blame those people for coming here illegally and getting "amnesty", we didn't do enough to stop illegal immigration.

Well, we do not have an amnesty proposal on the table right now but if you are just asking what peolpe think of it...
I think that if they give one criminal amnesty for any illegal activity then it just leaves the door open for any criminal to file for amnesty on their crimes. It will cost the USA billions of dollars, will open a can of worms with other criminals and lead the USA into a downward spiral. All of us legal US citizens have to uphold the law or pay the price, why should we reward them for breaking the law? What signal are we sending by doing this? How many other law breakers will that invite to our nation and what kind of a nation will we have with nothing but criminals who think they got away with it the first time so what is stopping them from behaving undesireably the next time? First, we need to reform the citizenship application. It takes too long for these people to get citizenship so feel they must break the law to get in. While they are here illegally they are sending american money back to their homes to support their families and that is really helping to sink us. Make it quicker for them and they can get their families here and we can all stop supporting other countries! And we need be sure we have taxes on food - everyone eats, therefore everyone would be paying taxes on food, no matter if you are legal or illegal. We also need to heavily tax the monies beng sent out of the country. We need the employers to stop hiring them, the households to stop hiring them for maid, lawn or handy man services too. We can build all the fences on the borders we want but with everyone still hiring them and the banks letting them have accounts and credit cards (try Bank of America!) we are throwing money away. It takes everyone and most think they have a special reason to hire an illegal - NOT! The dollar they are saving is the dollar they are supporting other countries with, including terroists!! I have nothing against illegals wanting to be here but they are going to ruin our great country and take us with them if they don't take the correct route to doing it and we don't punish them for criminal activities!!

I have nothing against any decent human being wanting to seek a better life. However.....
LEGAL PERMANENT RESIDENTS, provided they have no criminal record, should be allowed IMMEDIATE application for citizenship AND A WAIVER on the $400 fee the Federal government wants them to pay to become a citizen! They've paid their taxes, their medical insurance, their vehicle insurance, life insurance, even long term care insurance and they break no laws. They are NOT a burden to this country or society. Their children born on this soil are and should be citizens.
It is a slap in the face to the 26,000,000 LEGAL non-citizens living in the US to allow amnesty to ILLEGAL ALIENS, and to allow the ILLEGAL's newborn children to become citizens just because they are born on US soil but NOT LEGALLY domiciled here. This is RIDICULOUS!
I think ALL LEGAL PERMANENT RESIDENT NON-CITIZENS in the US should be granted immediate application for citizenship without paying a FURTHER TAX of $400 to become one if they so desire.
Legal Permanent Residents are Americans!
SPEAK UP LEGAL PERMANENT RESIDENTS! LET YOUR VOICES BE HEARD!!!! Let the government know what you think.

Woefully unfair to anyone trying to become a citizen legally. Also woefully unfair to all US born taxpayers who will foot a total bill of more than 2 TRILLION dollars to support this throng of uneducated, unskilled and un-loyal illegals.
Think of it this way...America will absorb upwards of 100 million foreigners (counting spouses, children & immediate family members) that won't contribute to the the AMERICAN culture. Presently there are 300 million US residents. We will add 25% more people who will drain the system dry, far more than they contribute with the miniscule jobs they do.
What happens if you take your favorite drink and add 25% water to it? It becomes tasteless and less appetizing. Welcome to the new America.
Thank you George Bush and fellow politicians on both sides of the aisle for effectively destroying the greatest country ever known.

Unlawful Entry is a CRIME. Zero tolerance for immigration-law violators! No amnesty, no "stealth-amnesty." No "change of status," marriage fraud, "exceptional leave to remain," no "Temporary Protected Status." If you break the law, depart or be deported. Illegal aliens kill more US citizens each year than the war in Iraq has killed in four years. Apologists for illegal immigration like to paint it as a victimless crime. But in fact, illegal immigration causes substantial harm to American citizens and legal immigrants, particularly those in the most vulnerable sectors of our population--the poor, minorities, and children. Additionally, job competition by waves of illegal immigrants willing to work at substandard wages and working conditions depresses the wages of American workers, hitting hardest at minority workers and those without high school degrees. Illegal immigration also contributes to the dramatic population growth overwhelming communities across America--crowding school classrooms, consuming already limited affordable housing, and straining precious natural resources like water, energy, and forestland. Taxpayers are being forced to pay for the free health care, education, and other welfare programs being given to illegal aliens; Those tax dollars could be given back to U.S. taxpayers or used to keep our borders secure; They may be here illegally, but they sure know how to "work the system" to collect "free" medical care, "free" education, "free" food, Section 8 housing vouchers and other housing assistance, and hundreds of other social services. It costs citizens additional hundreds of billions of tax dollars at every level: local, state, and federal. It gobbles up billions of our charitable contributions. And much of that money ends up siphoned out of our economy and into offshore accounts. Illegal aliens, over half of whom work "under the table" with neither job nor income reported (nor taxed), are not counted as employed or unemployed. But some of those day-labor and off-the-books "job-lets" would be "real" jobs - available to American citizen job-seekers - if employment regulations were enforced. Illegal aliens can get away with tax evasion, et al., which citizens cannot. In short, we have too many workforce entrants and too few jobs created. The ratio works out to roughly 7-10 workforce entrants per job created. If all illegal aliens depart or are deported, all legal immigration halted, and all temporary employment visas abolished, we still have a problem with more US-born workforce entrants than new jobs created. Illegal immigration damages our country and our citizens every day at every level. And not even the attacks of 2/26 and 9/11 have awakened many Americans to the vast dangers illegal immigration poses to our selves, our families, our communities, our society, our values, our principles, our civilization. Zero Tolerance for Immigration-Law Violators! We must remember the lessons of 2/26, 9/11, and the costs we bear every single day. God Bless the U S A !
