Say, a quarter of the christian smokers that ever lived since tobacco use became common?

Don't bother telling me the Old Testament says "don't do this or that" unless it mentions something specific about smoking plants. Worth 10 points though if you can find a specific warning on smoking.

Father G:
That's always puzzled me. The Old Testament goes to great lengths on "don't do this" "Don't eat that" but fails to mention stuff that could have saved lives. Just a brief tutorial on pathogens would have done the trick.

I'm disappointed.
I was looking for someone just like you to take up my challenge. Shame, you failed to satisfy my curiosity. With all your wisdom and education, your answer amounts to a hearsay, dodgy link and a half-hearted insult.

PS: What animal are you mimicking in that photo? Is it supposed to be an orangutang?

What if he had explained viruses and bacteria, and told us to wash our hands or bathe.

That alone would have saved more people from the plagues than anything he actually did.

Mostly Christianity ended any real medical study when it came to power, and condemned millions to death by ignorance.

Jesus told you to accept Him as your Savior 2000 years ago and to this day you haven`t obeyed Him ? So why do you think it would have made any difference if He told you not to smoke ?? God gave man a pure atmosphere to breathe . If He had wanted you to breathe smoke , He would have given you a never ending fire ; however that comes after you depart this world as an unsaved sinner , in hell ! Smoking has only become a main stream unhealthy habit in the last century .The tobacco companies have told you for over 60 years "smoking cigarettes causes cancer" , but you still light up more than ever !! So if the Bible has instructed you to take care of your body with only good things as it is the Temple of the Lord , then nothing that will harm the body should be introduced into it ! Jesus doesn`t tell you to use anything that is bad for your body anywhere in the Bible ? Jesus did not tell you to do meth , crack , heroin , pot , but they are all done along with all the other deadly things that are detrimental to ones` good health and lifestyle . Jesus clearly instructs` you throughout the Bible to only do things that are good for you , your body , and your lifestyle.. Jesus didn`t tell you to drink poison either ? So if Jesus didn`t tell you not to drink poison ; will you now go out for a good stiff shot of arsenic ??

It is actually warned against quite often in the Old Testament, but, you would have to have an education to understand it and if you did you would not ask the question.

Generally the Hebrew word is translated as incense, which is a plant or combination of plants and spices that are smoked, sometimes in a pipe and sometimes just burned in a bowl.

ket-o'-reth

This is also the word used to describe hashish and marijuana in a general kind of way, like "plants used for smoking".

PS: The dietary laws in scripture do exactly what you are saying, but, again, you would need an education to understand them.

Today, the scientific community promotes many of the same principles that a loving Heavenly Father gave to Joseph Smith nearly two centuries ago.

"...tobacco is not for the body, neither for the belly, and is not good for man, but is an herb for bruises and all sick cattle, to be used with judgment and skill." (Doctrine and Covenants 89:8)

This revelation was given February 27, 1833 long before anyone had any idea whatsoever that tobacco was harmful to one's health. As God explained to Joseph Smith this revelation was given "in consequence of evils and designs which do and will exist in the hearts of conspiring men in the last days..." (D&C 89:4)

God has spoken against the use of:

* Tobacco.
* Alcohol.
* Coffee and tea.
* Harmful, habit-forming drugs.

That this idea was well before Joseph Smith's time is more evidence of his divine calling as a prophet. God bless you..

Yours Truly

Arthur :)

P.S. The whole revelation is contained in the source link.

There is nothing specific about this, and some of the most beloved Christian apologists have both smoked and drank, CS Lewis, for example. There is, however, a logical fallacy in your question, namely: Jesus was either not a very good savior, or else He did not exist, or worst of all was a fraud since He did not warn us of all possible evils.

The fact is that He came to save us generally from the power of sin, not to create an exhaustive encyclopedic reference on what was forbidden and what was not. For this reason, Christians are under the "law of the spirit," and are to be led and guided by God for the specifics of life.

Tobacco became deadly after they started to use the pesticides on it to kill the pests that cut down on production and their profit margin.Do people realize the chemicals they are taking in when they smoke? if you grew your own like t
he native Americans did you wouldn't have to worry about it.
Oh and to answer your query the Word says this body is the temple of the Holy Ghost and we are not to do any thing to harm it.

People really shouldn't look to people who lived 2000 years ago to have the answers to the problems of today. That time has passed, as have the laws and the societies those laws were designed for. You wouldn't consult the owners manual of a Ford Model T to find out how to fix your 2006 Honda Accord's transmission, would you?

Let's just think about the United States, in just one year. In 2001, 394,507 people died of cigarette smoke, according to the CDC.

Now, the United States is about 80% Christian. Assuming only half of Christians obeyed God's word, that would be 40%.

So about 157,000 people in just 2001 in just the United States.

That's rough math, because we assume the number of Christians who smoke is equal to the general population, but whatever.

Jesus didn't know about tobacco. Tobacco is a product of the New World. There is no account of people smoking in Biblical days. How many people have mathematicians killed? I'm with you on the tobacco it is a filthy habit any way it is used. Kisses BB

So you're saying that God should of made us a list of 2000 things that well will go through in this life and to avoid. Should God of told us to wipe are butts too. God reveals to us common sense. You're breathing in fire.
