Well, a lot of women do it for cosmetic reasons, but it's usually waxing instead of shaving. Some men do it too for the same reason, but get teased for being gay.
The only legitimate reason I can think of for waxing or shaving your arms is if you're a swimmer. Not a recreational swimmer, but a swim team type of swimmer.
Other than that it seems too weird!

You would probably do better if you would use wax or the hair cremes for this. The longer you shave the thicker and coarser your hair will grow back in. So, if you think your arm hair is bad now, shave it for a couple of years and it will be two to three times thicker and darker than it was when you started!
It's not barbaric but you will really hate it in a couple of years!

Well I shave my armpits but not the rest of the hair on my arms. I imagine that if you have an overabundace of body hair you might would shave your arms. I know alot atheletes do it, particularly swimmers, to make themselves glide easier thru the water...I don't see why it would be considered barbaric. I would think it would be just the opposite, if you allowed your body hair to get out of control that would be more barbaric, don't you think?

I wouldn't say it's not normal though I do think it's a waste of time because now you're going to have to shave your arms everyday as well as your legs or else you'll look like a gorilla (no offense hehe) I think you should have maybe bleached it instead so it wasn't as noticeable .

Yup. I shave everything except the top of my head, it keeps me smooth for my my lady love she shaves for me so I feel like it's only fair that I reciprocate. But I agree waxing or laser hair removal works better because it lasts longer.
What is normal anyway?

I have really hairy arms and have done so since I was a kid. I now shave my arms with a dry razor so they are are not completely bare but well trimmed. When I met my husband he shaved his arms and chest .... this was a social/political statement.. You didn't say whether it was aesthetic ( you are real hairy) fashion ( you are a goth etc) or you are a swimmer.

I was just reading a magazine that had a little piece on arm hair... they suggest you use wax, and that will keep your hair-free longer than shaving. Do whatever you feel comfortable with!

it's normal...just as normal as the people who don't shave...i personally don't like to shave my arms since i don't have noticable arm hair, and if i did any way my arms would feel prickly. i have some friends who shave their arms and whenever i bump into them i can feel their prickly arms! but i guess if you're uncomfortable with your arm hair for whatever reasons you should wax instead: softer arms and longer periods in between waxing...
