Thank you all for your answers. I feel so sad just reading your posts about your pet. Mine is still throwing up constantly so I guess eventually I'll have to make a choice. She is 14 y o. She's my baby girl.

As long as your cat is not to much pain, and can use the litter, keep him or her for as long as you can. But once they start hiding and no longer want food or drink: sad to say its time to bring them in to be put to sleep. But will you are still observing the cat they may just die. It is a very personal decision you have to make. Good luck, and I am sorry. I am going through the same thing.

Only you can decide this for you and your cat.
My cat had a tumor in her mouth and it was getting to the point where she could not eat.
She lost alot of weight in just a matter of days.
I felt it was best to put her to sleep.

Take a good look at your cat.
Is he/she Happy or miserable
Is there any quality of life?
Would YOU want to continue living if you had whatever sickness your cat has.

Look your cat in the eyes.
It will tell you the right answer.

I wish you well.... losing a friend is very sad.

I took my cat to an emergency vet clinic one evening because she was very, very ill. She was 15 and her quality of life had been only so-so for the past two years (she had stopped eating and drinking and couldn't make it to the litter box even though, bless her, she tried). It was a very, very sad decision to make, but I know to this day it was the right decision. The vet gently wrapped her in a warm cuddle blanket (her core temperature was low and she was basically freezing), allowed me time to say goodbye (she was a great cat and I told her so), and then she was given an injection and peacefully passed away.

I had a ten year old female that I knew was failing because she lost about half her body weight and if she wasn't eating or pooping she was sleeping. She continued to eat and drink and was using the litter box so I let nature take it's course. On a Saturday morning she climbed behind the refrigerator and died.

Mine couldn't move one day, and they couldn't do much for her, and it broke my heart to make the choice but I had her put to sleep. She was very healthy up to that point for almost 15 yrs.
Great answers above. Only you can make the choice. Good luck, and I'm sorry your cat is sick.

My last cat was fighting cancer. When he was in serious pain one night with all kinds of other symptoms, we knew it was time. I brought him to the emergency vet (without spending 3 hours on Yahoo! Answers getting advice - imagine that) and he was barely hanging on. They said they'd be surprised if he made it through the night. We decided to have him put down rather than die alone overnight and possibly in pain at the vet's office.

Martha died naturally. But her final illness came on suddenly; she was in failing health but seemed ok. Had she gone on much longer I might have considered putting her down, but she went on her own terms, the little stinker. Er, not that I WANTED to put her down, I just meant that as a reflection of her personality in general, lol.

When the emergency veterinarian hospital called me at work and told me she had to be hooked up to a bunch of machines and fed intraveniously, I told them not to. I said "give her a kiss for me and tell her I love her". Then I hung up and cried. ;( My little girl was 14 years old and had a full, loving life.

well if it can't be cured then put to sleep. if it dies naturally then it might suffer. Just because you are sad to see ti die it is selfish to keep it alive for your sake.

*hope all goes well*
