Also, which school has a better social life/college experience? And finally, which school has cheaper off campus housing?

"Chie" is probably correct that both universities are equal in the quality of education offered. I would give a slight "nod" to Long Beach.

North Long Beach, as far as the city is concerned, is on the exact diagonal from CSULB as "B D" pointed out.. The area to the north of CSULB is the Los Altos / Atherton district, a reasonably safe, clean part of town (it's not far from "Worthington Ford", of T.V. commercial fame). Rents would be slightly cheaper than near CSUF, especially as you go west into town. (Avoid anything along Anaheim Street west of Cherry Ave.). Consider also that Long Beach has one of the best public transportation systems in So.Cal. should you need to use it.

The opportunities for a social life at both schools would be roughly equal, but neither school has a reputation as a "party" school if that is what you are looking for. CSULB would have a more diverse student body that CSUF if that is of interest to you. I'm sure which ever one you choose, you won't go wrong.

Long Beach State is pretty much just a commuter school, Fullerton has a better social life and college experience. The housing is cheaper for Fullerton too as Long Beach is either very expensive or very bad. Much of the student body lives around the campus.

Keep in mind much of LB north of the school is a dangerous area. That is not the case with Fullerton. Also you will get a much better education at Fullerton, CSLB isn't known for it's history department.

I would say Beach has a better social life. For one thing, LB has more on-cmapus housing, which greatly contributes to the social experience. Fullerton is basically a commuter campus.

As for off-campus housing, I would say LB is cheaper. Check out craigslist.com for listings, but in general, LA County is less expensive than the OC. I know Brea, Yorba Linda, and Fullerton can be quite expensive.

I went to LB and best friend went to Fullerton. Unlike what "just a F???" said it's not true...Yes north lb isn't one of the safest cities as some areas in oc like santa ana. (dont' have anything against santa ana used to work there) but north long beach is far from csulb...long beac city is very big...LB is great social life and i say this because my best friend was always at LB's social gatherings events and dances. Education is great. Mainly it's what you make of it. In LB you have the beach right there and like the first guy said LA county is cheaper than OC. First guy and Second one contradict a lot...I agree with the first one!Good luck though!

I went to CSULB and my bf went to Fullerton. He didn't like it there, and I've heard a lot of complaints from my other friends who went there as well, and they transfered out. LB on the other hand, I liked (and graduated) and there are MANY off campus housings close by. The school can even help you find locations to rent.

I expect they are relatively equal.

I suggest you start reading their school papers online, check out the blog sections to see what the students are saying. And check out www.ratemyprofessor.com to see what students are saying about the teachers you plan on taking.
