He could have healed Him had He so chosen, but this way showed several things to the people living at that time, as well as has good lessons for us today.

1. Jesus was in control of the situation, even though others felt things were hopeless.

2. Showed Jesus' compassion and concern for the dead as well as the family.

3. Showed Jesus' power and dominance even over death.

4. Jesus waited until Lazarus was buried so there would be no question as to whether or not he truly raised him from the dead.

Lazarus was His close friend an Jesus wept when He heard Lazarus had died. There was no hurry however, Jesus had the power to call Lazarus back from the dead. All things happen for the glory of God. It was also a foreshadow of what would happen to HIm. Perhaps the incident had a positive effect on someone somewhere that others are not even aware of.

Jesus travelled all over the Holy land, which spans many, many miles - by foot. By the time Jesus heard of it, Lazarus was already dead. Since Lazarus was such a dear friend of Jesus, and so that people could see that He was truly the Son of God, Jesus raised him from the grave in the presence of hundreds of people.

HE could have, but He chose to wait so that Martha, Mary and all others that were there would see a greater miracle. Raising Lazarus was a fore-runner of Christ's own resurrection. He is the Resurrection and the life. Bringing back someone who had died- wouldn't that be proof that Jesus is God? I think so. Jesus was showing the power of God!!

He could have went and healed him right away. however he wanted to show by waiting until Lazarus was dead long enough for people to know he was dead and not just comatose. He waited for the body to start decomposing. The why is to prove he had the power to bring life back his own included, and he has the power for the Resurrection of the dead.

It had to do with the fourth day and the fourth day of creation.
Jesus came to the world on the fourth day to save the world from death. A Day is as a thousand years and a thousand years is as one day. Jesus was in the earth for 3 days and will return for the seventh day the Sabbath which is God's rest.
Christ Millennial reign on the Earth for one thousand years the same as the day of the lord...Jesus told them it was not his time...All things are done in God's established time and on the seventh day God rested. Many wonder why Christ came when he did at the 4000 year mark it was his time.
It was a sign the resurrection was on the fourth day Jesus was in the earth for 3 days and returns the 7th day,
God's creation is not finished we are still a work in progress and the true seventh day is the kingdom of God on the earth it is the Millennium Kingdom the thousand year reign of Christ on the earth,

Nobody told him that Lazarus was even sick. You have to remember he was in human form with diminished powers and not omniscient at the time. It could also be, as many other things included in the final version of the bible that's come down to us, to fulfill a prophesy in the old testament.

Jesus' miracles had gradually been increasing in "difficulty" and complexity, the resurrection of Lazarus was leading up to his most difficult miracle, resurrecting himself from the dead.

Maybe he did it for the miracle of raising the dead to the living or maybe thats what his father led him to do. Jesus was being demanded by people to go to him to heal him no one believed he was his friend and would make everything alright

no one knows why because the bible did not give one...and we should not reason out that which the Lord sees befits us to know...but for him being there when Laz. was dead is a biblical fact...Laz. being ressurrected is also a biblical fact...again ,for an explanation of the reason , no one knows...though some reason out that this event shows us the power of God to ressurect us from the dead...Paul in his epistle to the Thessalonians talked about the ressurection of the righteous when Jesus returns...similarly, in Revelation 20,21,22 talks adout this mentioned ressurection as the first of the two....the second ressurection would be that of the wicked...to eternal condemnation...in conclusion, the Laz. event is , i believe, an encouragement to the saints to wait for Jesus in patience...if we have to die before he returns , we must rest assured that he will return ...and will ressurect us from the dead...God bless
