When you decide to live together... how do you split up the bills?

Whats the best way to handle finances when you start living together?

Everything half and half. You could set up a joint account (separate from your individual personal accounts), that you both pay equal amounts into each month, and pay your bills from that.

There are several different factors. Does your guys make more or do you? Are you moving into his place or are you guys getting a new place together. I don't think there is any one way you can split the finances. I know with me and my girl I pay rent and she takes care of the electric, cable, and water. You just have to find out what works best for your situation.

Get married first.This shacking thing usually ends up bad.Dont believe me/Tell me how many 70 yr old you know who have shacked for the last 50 yrs.Then watch some judge shows.If your going to play "pretend married" then realize its not quite the same someone can be left holding the bag 'o bills while the other who has had one foot out the door the whole time has vacated the premises leaving a lease that has to be paid.

if you have 6 bills to pay have three in your name and three in the other persons name. When you get the bill tell them to write you a check for half, if you get two bills at the same time split each in half and pay the difference

50-50 is best. Each person needs to pull an equal share otherwise there is hard feelings later. Any other split isn't fair to someone.

you share them, of course you'd need a joint account which you shouldn't get unless you're married and you shouldn't live together until you're married...call me old fashion but that's my opinion
