I think it's a noble cause that you want to join. But unfortunately you'll need to part ways with the locks temporarily at least.

During basic training they will cut your hair. Once you've paid your dues so to speak you can have your hair a bit longer as long as it doesn't touch the top of your ears or your collar.

Best of luck and thanks in advance for your service to our country!

Thats funny. Before I went to basic there was a guy in the holdover platoon wearing civilian clothes and with long red hair. I asked why he wasn't wearing a uniform and he told me his story.

The first day when you get your haircuts he stepped out of line because he didn't want one. When the Sergeant ordered him back into line he cussed him out. Eventually an MP showed up and he pulled a knife on him. Well, Mr MP called for backup and they proceeded to give Mr. Redhead the beating of his life AFTER he dropped the knife.

One of the other guys in the platoon confirmed the story for me.

The redhead got kicked out but, as he liked to brag, they never did cut his hair!

Your hair can't touch your collar when in uniform. The same holds true for females. Maybe you can put your hair up, as female soldiers do, but your drill sergeant will make you life miserable! lol

Your hair will grow back. Trust me, you don't want to keep your hair in basic. Especially if you go to a place that has a lot of sand. Sometimes I wish I could of had my hair chopped off...

If your a man the answer is no. the regs are fairly flexible though so check it out first.

At basic you dint have a choice at least when I went 22 years ago they cut it for you and to the skin.

nope...when you go to boot camp you will get your hair cut as often as they say it needs to be cut or your going home. I don't know if they make special religious exceptions or if they make exceptions... but its the army you will conform if you join!

Nope, the haircut is mandatory to make you the same as every other man in your unit (I said man b/c woman don't have buzz cuts). It is designed to make you equal and uniform. hair grows back, whats the big deal?
