I think the penalties are different from state to state.

One thing is the same in every state though: What your doing is stupid and dangerous. Especially not having insurance, do yourself and others a favor and stay off the road in till you are properly set up to drive.

Where I live, you are not only removed from the car and it is impounded, but you will receive (2) citations. Driving w/o a license and driving with no insurance.
The DMV will create a drivers license number for you and list you as Unlicensed. They will impose at least a 90 day suspension on this created license and you will not be able to apply for a drivers license until after the 90 days has been served. Additional suspension days and fines for no insurance may be added before the state will allow you to apply for a drivers license.
Driving without a drivers license is illegal. Go today and apply for your license, the consequences are too severe for you to risk ruining your driving record for life.

You could get into trouble. I recommend you not to drive without a license, if you have an accident, and damage the car that you hit, you could end up paying for the damage out of your own pocket, and that is not good.

Are you kidding? You are stupid, who cares if you're a "good" driver, a baby can drive, it's easy. I really hope you don't hurt anyone else or yourself, you need to wise up and USE YOUR HEAD! If you get stopped, your license will be suspended, meaning you have to wait a certain amount of time to get it. I really hope the cops permanently suspend your license, that ought to teach you, you really don't deserve to drive.

Imagine this scenario:
***
You are minding your business driving down the road... a small child runs in front of your car (you did NOTHING WRONG) and you hit the child breaking his neck and leaving him paralyzed.
***
The family gets your information from the police and realizes you have no insurance (youve already received a steep fine and ticket from the cops at this point) THey immediately notify their attorney who starts collecting their medical bills.
***
Three years later the child has raked up 400,000 in medical bills and the family sues you and wins. Your life is ruined and you spend ever waking moment of the next 40 years attempting to make money to pay off your debt. You can never support your family fully and struggle to survive because of it.
***
is it worth not having insurance now?

What is Tesco's reason for cancelling the insurance. You say you have a letter stating it would be automatically renewed, therefore I would have thought that unless they couldn't take the direct debit, for whatever reason, you would have a case against them. If, as you say, you paid a direct debit on 29th Jan, I don't see how your insurance could be invalid on 15th Feb. The direct debit would have to be taken in advance. Are you absolutely sure that the payment was taken on 29th Jan? as it looks to me like it wasn't taken and they have tried to contact you to rectify things before the renewal date.

well the first thing is that if you get stopped you would have to show your license and than get booked & fined first for driving without license & secondly, for whatever reason you were stopped like maybe over speeding etc.

You end up with alot of fines to pay. they will charge you with driving without a license. This can also affect when you will be eligible to get your license.
