can japan understand english too?

Japanese students study English in jr high and highschool for 6 years (3 yrs each), and so have some understanding of English. And, as said above, English is considered 'cool' and so it's in various pop songs (random words that may or may not fit in with the song), group names, on t-shirts (again, random words that may or may not make sense), and, it seems, in games.

Whether they actually understand it or not depends on the person.

i think it was part or the terms japan had to accept after losing the war that they had to use english in everything.

They seem to know isolated words. I was told that English is considered "cool" (as is most things that are American).
