My sister is a Mormon and I've found them to be wonderful people. They do have a sketchy background, but it's just typical religous bigotry.

People just don't know anyhting about the religion, and though it may seem odd the values have made some very nice people.

Your question subtly conveys the most important concept in mormondom: "We're so persecuted!"

Lots of people disagree entirely with the church and grow weary of the lay membership "sperding lies and rumors" - most of you really don't know or understand the issues the church ignores.

What you learn in sunday school isn't necessarily the whole unbiased story. Claiming that everyone is anti-mormon is not the way to win friends or influence anyone.

In the end analysis, the lds church IS different and DOES crazy stuff (crazy as in 'weird' compared to the rest of the world).

What gets me is all the uber-mormons conspiring to have any 'anti' response deleted. If this is god's way, I'm not impressed.

It was September 11, 1857. A wagon train of 160 settlers on their way to California was massacred by a bunch of Mormons dressed in Indian clothes. 17 children under the age of 8 were spared and lived to tell their story.
1st. They dressed as Indians but after five days they changed tactics.
2nd. Then they went a bit away ,dressed back into normal clothes and acted like the Rescue Party who had negotiated a deal with the"Indians".
3rd, Then confiscated all the guns as part of the deal for "saving" the travellers and Mormon dissidents( who were the reason for the attack in the first place).
4th. Took everybody off a mile or so and shot them all. 2 men got away but were eventually tracked down and killed a day or so later.
5th. Took the 17 children they had not killed back with them to Salt Lake City.
6th. Got away with it. After a publicized trial, with the childrens own testimony admitted into the court, only 1 man was convicted and shot, John D. Lee. ( pardoned by Church 1960)
It ended up being called the Mountain Meadows Massacre. The first time in U.S. history that U.S. citizens were massacred on U.S. soil by religious wackos. This event is even more significant because the total U.S. population at the time was much smaller.(I dont know the exact numbers, maybe only 30 million or so) In todays numbers it would be around 1400

Well, the LDS is very different from other churches. Sure, LDS believe in Jesus as other churches do, but how many other churches believe that Jesus came to America after he left the disciples? Thats a big difference. so is the idea that noone has the authority to baptise unless they are Mormon. There are also similarities between the temple rituals of LDS and the rituals of paganism. Whats interesting is that Joseph Smith was once interested in the Pagan rituals. I think the Mormon church seems very cultish to other religions, so alot of people are taken aback. But, i know a few Mormons and they are cool people

Well have you been to communist china??? Were a Mormon would have to memorize the bible or the Mormon Bible, were a Mormon would have to hide their religion or be jailed and if a Mormon were found out they would be jailed beaten and possibly die. Were a Mormon has to have secret church meeting sand hope no one in the group is a spy for the government. I think Mormons have persecution mania. In factr i know they do, I use to be one and the old days of persecution are over, the mormons are not being jailed, they cannot practice poligamy, but they are not being killed or being forced from one state to the next, those days are gone, infact in Utah, a mormon can teach the bible story in utah and have bible study during school hours, stuff a normal christian cannot do in any other state.

Yes, Mormons are different. You don't even believe you should stop someone from murdering you! You think a man can have many wives! And another thing- we don’t “sperd lies and rumors about you”(you meant to say spread). I have yet to see another Christian say something bad about a Mormon. The reason we don’t believe what you believe: because one of the documents Mormonism is founded on has been proven to be false (among other things).

it's not really because of what you guys do, but mainly because of your gospels. The latter day saints parts sound a little silly to those who weren't brought up to believe in them unconditionally. It's no worse than other stuff in the bible though. Christians are also offended by the polygamy aspect, which they consider wrong. Although, from what i've seen mormons seem to be happy, family people. Any religion that is not in the majority will be persecuted by the others to some extent. Look at judaism for example.
There is also the fact that Mormons believe they are the "chosen" people, but what religion does not believe this? You also face criticism for being a new religion, by comparison with the older, more established religions. This persecution is largely as a result of other religious groups.

People - primarily evangelical Christians - are indeed mean to Mormons. The fact that they spread lies about them is evidenced by the number of Christians who have answered this very question by saying things like "Mormons practice polygamy and men are lords over women." Most Christians know almost nothing about the LDS church except that they don't like it. I am a Mormon and I have experienced this frequently - I have been told that I belong to a weird non-Christian cult, and then discovered that my accusor does not even know the correct name of my church.

Yes, we have some different beliefs - Baptism for the dead was practised in the early church, see 1 Corinthians 15:29 - but it seems that many people are not prepared to learn for themselves what the church really believes, and prefer to accept the rumours and lies. I can only conclude that it is because Satan works hardest against what is good and right and true.

As a Christian i can only tell you 3 things. !. I do not Hate you or say those things, secondly, there are some doctrines that are not biblical and though I believe that they do not bother me, but do scare or hurt others. Lastly, that many Mormons that have visted my wife and I have been very rude and mean, especially with my wife, yet that does not make all mormons bad either, just like the generalization you used. I hope this helps.

Okay, you need a straight answer. The answer is that truth will always attract falsehoods because that is where Satan puts forth his greatest efforts. There must needs be opposition in all things and where the truth is strongest, there will also be found the strongest opposition. Why do you think Christ was persecuted and crucified? Why do you think the ancient apostles were persecuted? Why do you think Joseph Smith was persecuted? It is because Satan does not want the truth to go forth. He will do whatever he can to stop the work of Christ from moving forward. He does that by influencing the minds of weak people, by deceiving wicked people to persecute and attack the truth wherever it is found.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the Kingdom of God on the earth and will move forward until it has filled the whole earth. Joseph said it best when he stated that no unhallowed hand can stop the work. Wicked people falsely accused him of every kind of evil thing and in nothing was he ever found guilty. He was vindicated in all that he did until the mobs of Illinois assassinated him, making him a martyr for the cause of Zion. It will always be thus until Christ himself returns to put all enemies under His feet.
Until then, we must endure our trials and move forward in this great cause.

I think one reasons people picked on ya'll is because some people think that you worship your prophet Joseph smith more than Jesus. But my hubby and I have spent some time with mormons. But we just can't believe the way they do. But we don't put them down. I always have the motto live and live. People should treat people as they would like to be treated. Like the golden rule says. So just pray for the people and don't worry what they say. You believe the way you want and I believe the way I do good luck.

I know you feel like people are always putting you down. But look in the bible there were people being put down for their belief. Like Jesus said in the Bible that Christian are always going to have people put them down . They would be mocked etc for their belief. At least we are in a society here in america that we can believe what we want too, and that is everyone choice to believe how they see fit.
If people put you down you should quote them the scripture in the New Testment. Jesus said Those who are without sin cast the first stone. We are not perfect but we ought to try and love everyone and let people believe what they won't too. enuf preaching for now.
