Being the patient means a loss of control for people who normally have a huge amount of autonomy Second, just as pilots don't think anybody can land a plane better than they can, doctors have at least a little distrust of their colleagues, even while recognizing that the feeling is silly. Finally, the more you know about medicine, the more you know what can go wrong, and having it described to you is not so personal as the admittedly second-hand experience doctors bring from their practice.

Because we are doctors dear future colleague...You see...normally you dont trust even your brother even for a simple IM injection, let alone the complex procedures you undergo when you fall ill with a serious illness...there is a little (or big, it depends) doctors brain saying to you..."this procedure should be done this or the other way, the latest studies show....."",,,and there we go...we cannot help it.
There is an advantage on that: When we are under general anesthesia, we keep very quiet...and we dont interfere with our colleagues work (sloppy, genial, or otherwise)....
We are not Ideal patients, because such a person simply does not exist (even within lay people)...so, why should we baheave differently?
We cannot help having experience, and telling right from wrong...although that is more often than not a curse....

They probably know too many details about the illness and get confused as to which side effects will be hitting them from the medication they will be prescribed. It makes sense; doesn't it?
I don't agree with you though that doctors are supposed to be ideal patients. They are human beings just as the rest of us with insecurities and fear of what is unknown.
Good luck in your future work helping people who are vulnerable because of illnesses and suffering.

The greater human beings comprehend roughly contemporary drugs, the greater skeptical they have a tendency to be approximately getting scientific look after illnesses. fairly some the treatments do no longer artwork fairly some the time. maximum sufferers will recover from maximum illnesses with out any scientific care. some scientific scientific care can kill the affected person. So while medical doctors are resistant to getting their illnesses dealt with, this is not stubbornness, this is basically a rational understanding that drugs does not have lots to grant.

Doctors are caretakers by nature, most people in the health care field, care for others, this is just what we do. However, our own ailments take a back seat to our patients. It is hard to admit that we ourselves can, will and do get ill also.

Every doctor should be a patient, big time, first. See how they like how the health system treats you.
And doctors are stubborn even when they are not ill.

Because a lot of them think they know more than the people taking care of them does.
To me, a great doctor is one who knows her limitations, respects the staff who helps her do her job, and realizes that a person in a particular job position may just know more about [certain things] than a person with a doctorate's degree does.
I quit watching the TV show, "ER," because I was tired of seeing doctors performing tests they would never do, and perform duties they would never do. As if the doctor is more qualified to do it.
(Can you tell I work in healthcare?) ;-)

y is it everyone's a doctor these days, only a poor one? walking into a restaurant or grocery, the surgeon passes the burger to the customer, one doctor to another, but neither knows anything about the inevitable operation about to ensue. why don't people in general dance more get well soon songs and attend less day jobs?
