which is better: Dalmatian or dachshund( a wiener dog)?

Doxies are easier to deal with. They are generally more friendlier and trainable.

Dalmatian can be great dogs when put with the right people. Lots however end up in shelters beacuse people don't know the breed and can't train/handle them.

When I worked in a doggie daycare, we did not even allow Dalmatians!

Unless you have done your reaserch and know that you can handle a Dalatian, I would go with a Doxi. I personally think Doxies are cuter too!

All dogs are great. Dalmatians are larger dogs and require a great deal of exercise. One answerer said that because firefighters picked them they must be good. The reason firefighters chose dalmatians is because there were good around horses and did not spook them, remember the early fire rigs were horse drawn. Dachshunds are much smaller dogs, they are very intelligent, and are very much people dogs. Because of their intelligence they need to be trained or they will take over. And dachshunds live longer. Dalmatians live about 12 to 14 years and dachshunds live to 14 to 16 years.

Definitely a dachshund! Dalmations are really high strung and are not the good pets that 101 Dalmations makes them look like. I have a dachshund, Izabelle, and she is my everything. She's sweet, very well behaved, a great protector, and gentle with my newborn baby sister! Why not? Good luck with your choice! :)

I'd get a dachshund, but that's just me. I like dogs about that size. Dalmations can have health issues and not be as good around kids, but they're pretty.

Dalmations are a rather aloof dog, bred to be workers and not pets. They don't deal well with children, new situations, strangers, and other dogs. Dachshunds are cute and snuggly but also stubborn, hyper and yappy. Because of their heritage, they love any kind of hole and are afraid of anything swinging fast above them.

Def a dalmatian. Thats the dog firefighters pick so they must be good dogs. I personally like big dogs better neways... But it depends...If you want to get one of these dogs, see which one you have room for. Dachsunds will stay small and a dalmatian will get huge. Dalmatians are also smarter.

Dalmatians are very hyper dogs and need to run around almost constantly.

Dachsies seem to be very stable but can tend to get snappish as they grow older.

I do believe that both are prone to hip/joint problems.

Whichever you decide to get, go to a reputable breeder.
