Because............
First of all, the points you made are valid.
I think, (a qualifier), that everyone just want to be right, (including me). It seems to be universal for people to be recognized for...................whatever!
Some groups claim to love, and clearly hate, claim tolerance, and clearly have none for anyone who thinks differently than themselves.
But what if you think of yourself as "fixed".
You want others to experience the same joy you do, (well, I do anyway).
I try hard not to jam my beliefs down anyone's throat, at the same time, if you saw a baby about to put it's hand into an open flame, wouldn't you want to help?
Sometimes that "help" is misconstruded, or I express myself badly, or the timings wrong, or...............you get the point.
Don't discount the idea that there truly are evil people in the world, (Nero, Hitler........again, I think you get the point)
I wonder if your last line was ironic, or you knew you were referencing the Bible
3"Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? 4How can you say to your brother, 'Let me take the speck out of your eye,' when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? 5You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye.
Good luck

I wonder. Why can't we just cut one another some slack? Why do people feel they must change someone else to conform to their standards, even when there is no harm to anyone else?
I think most of the problem is that certain religions require proselytizing: they make a point to say that you should not only believe, but bring others to the same belief. This makes it hard for people to be tolerant.
I've just be re-playing my DVD of that great old movie, "Inherit the Wind," about the Scopes Monkey Trial. It's a fictionalized account, of course, but the point is well made that the people who were singing about hanging the defense lawyer from a sour apple tree to the tune of a Christian hymn really did believe they were right, even though they were talking very violently and burning effigies. It's harder to understand why atheists proselytize, though, although I assume they do it in the name of "educating the ignorant."
But if we keep trying, perhaps a good number will realize that if they use good manners, they can get a meaningful discussion going and maybe actually solve some of these issues. My habit is to but forth the "different strokes for different folks" philosophy consistently, and hope others pick up the banner. But there might be those who argue that I, too, am therefore proselytizing -- for the principle of free speech with good manners.

It's nice to see unbelievers in a topic that is about religion, bashing religion. Basically, what it all boils down to, is we all have a path to follow, each person (or group) from which ever view point believes their path is the correct way, and is trying to talk everyone else into following them. However, the path of the athiest really don't lead anywere, where as a path of religion atlest claims to lead somewhere..Giving humanity, since the dawn of time, the one thing it needs most. Hope. Honestly, there are a select few believers and non-believers alike that can make it on their on, but the masses must have something to believe in or they'll lose all hope and become quite the reckless society.

Where ever there's people there's always problem. That's normal. However, in order to minimise the friction, we should be more tolerant and understanding towards each other. Avoid provocation and violent when addressing an issue will help to settle matters with respect and appreciation.

Applaud!! well said :)
I myself am a Christian and have never understood why other Christians say that gay marriage will affect heterosexual marriages..doesn't make sense to me.
People have a right to their own lifestyle.
I have also wondered why people who don't believe in hell get so offended by someone else telling them they are going there..I myself also have never done this, but I know other Christians do.
have a great day, good question :)

BRAVO!!!!!!
I have never figured out how if two women are allowed to marry each other it affects my marriage at all.
How someone living in what other can SIN hurts those complaining about it.
Remember more people have been killed in the name of one religion or another through out history than ANYTHING else ever.
Those who hate others because their religion says that those others are sinners are not true believers in their own religion!

Amen. And you can start by dropping that little stone into the lake and make a ripple that will affect unknown people. If we all take your advice and take care of ourselves first, the world would be a better place. We can do it-one person at a time. God bless you.

religons aren't promoting intolerance
Christianity promotes forgivness even if you've been wronged
and islam promotes peace even if you're wronged
but few people of either religons understand that...
and ofcourse there's Zianism which allows harming anyone if it's for your cause!!!!
we msut accept the fact that we're different and accept each other differently or else we'll never live in peace
believe it or not, the quran says that we weren't created to be the same and that we'll always be different from one another not to fight one another
but to get to know each other and mix together and learn from eath other
let the judgement be for god

well, i obviously can't speak for all atheists.... But it is not simply the fact that they think i'm going to hell that bothers me. It's the knocking on the front door every saturday morning by the JW's...... it's the christians trying to put their rules & their dogma in schools and public places & claiming this is a "christian nation"..... It's not as simple as you make it sound.
The christians want to preach & preach & preach, but they do not practice what they preach & they expect us to eat it up & say 'Oh you know what? You're right! Jesus IS the way! Thank you SOOO much!" ...... when their methods don't work that's when they resort to the "you're going to hell" tactics.
It's all garbage. Christians have been pushing their beliefs on people for CENTURIES... we're only pushing back to fight for our own rights.
